I remember that year I attended four different schools.
I wasn't kicked out of school. It wasn't even close to anything of that sort. In fact, I was actually a very good student (straight A's and teachers pet may I add). My parents were just fond of moving around.. and my dad was getting tired of shoveling snow during below 20 degrees weather in Alaska.
Being quite familiar with moving, I came to accept it and quit complaining. My parents had only decided to move in hopes of a better future for all of us and I had hoped that success was what was waiting for us every time.
So from Alaska, I arrived in a small town known as Little Rock in northern California, where I attended a small, public high school for a few weeks while my my family and I stayed with my aunt. No more than 3 weeks later, my parents found an apartment in another town southwest of Little Rock called Peach Cove. Right next to the ocean.
One thing I learned from constant moving is, you can never make friends.
Over the course of the years, I came to understand that my "friendships" would not last. Eventually, I adapted to a life with no friends, but many acquaintances. This "lifestyle" proved to be the most beneficial way to live a short and quick moving social life. The "lives" that I never really cared to remember.
However that year— that day. I remember it clearly.
Peach Cove was prone to strong winds on hot, humid days. That day's weather was exceptionally good. Not too hot, nor too much wind, so I had decided to walk to school. That exceptionally mediocre day, marked the first day I would be attending Peach Cove High School.
I walked out of the vintage brick complex my family and I were currently residing in and took my time getting to school.
The air felt fresh, sprinkled with a hint of saltiness from the sea. Small weeds peaking through cracked areas of the cement sidewalk.
Along the way, small vendors began opening. Filling their stands with hot dogs, fruits, ice cream, beverages and souvenirs.
The soft smell of peaches grazed over the air, making my nostrils crave more of it's sweet scent.
That morning I had left home without breakfast, so I decided to buy a little something to munch on.
I promptly made my way to a fruit vendor on the other side of the street and purchased three nectarines for $1.50. Having received an awesome deal on mouth watering fruits, I was feeling ecstatic about my morning, but as I turned around, I ran right into a hard body and dropped two of them.
"Whoa! You okay?" He voiced concernedly. His vocals were boyish, yet strong and deep— gentle.
"I'm sorry! I should've watched where I was going. I'm fine, but are you okay?" I asked in return. I looked up and my eyes met with stunning grey ones.
His captivating eyes sparkled with amusement as he smiled in return. Nodding his head to indicate that he was fine.
"I made you drop your fruit though.. Here let my buy you two to pay—"
"Oh, no! That's not necessary!" I balk his offer. "I've still got one left and I gotta get to school. I was the one who bumped into you and dropped it myself. Thank you for the offer though."
I'd never met anyone both so handsome and nice. My face flushed and I could tell I was as red a tomato.
"Which school do you attend?" He asked after a moment of silence.
"Peach Cove High.. Today's actually my first day," I returned awkwardly. I look down at wrist and notice that the time on my watch was already 7:15. Unfortunately, I had made an appointment with my counselor for 7:30.
"I go to that school too! So what gra—"
"I'm sorry, that's great, but I've gotta get to school before the bell rings to meet with my counselor," I picked up and tossed the two nectarines that had been damaged when dropped away.
"I have to leave now. Maybe I'll see you around school. It was nice meeting you!" I hurriedly say and sprint away, leaving him awkwardly standing in front of a fruit vender.
After meeting him for the first time.
Author's Comment:
Yo!
All settings/characters are fictional. I simply made up fake town and city names while keepin' the state name so that readers can get a feel as to what the setting is supposed to be like.
This is my first time writing so feel free to comment and give some critical advise. I'm a pretty chill person, but I've got feelings too, so please don't judge too harshly, haha.-goldfish_03
