They came rushing in.
Mother and Dad heaved and gasped for air when they were at my door.
Not too long after, Vincent was right behind them.
"Sweetie, what happened!" Mother asked, tears welling up in her eyes as she walked towards me. Dad and Vincent tagged along behind her.
I slowly tried to lift myself up with my non-bound arm, but was quickly shoved back down with Dad's hand against my forehead. "Don't get up," he commanded sternly, with an expressionless face.
I hadn't seen dad so frustrated since Mom passed away. One could only imagine how I felt seeing him so upset.
"I don't know... I was walking home, then I tripped. Blood was gushing from my arm and I fainted," I commented. I reached up to wiped away Mother's tears. "How'd you guys get here so fast? I woke up not too long ago and the nurse just asked for my contact info. and how I was feeling."
"Vincent came and pounded on the door. After he explained that you were hurt and taken by the ambulance, we came to you as fast as possible," Dad explained, caressing my hair.
I gave him an 'oh' expression and looked over at Vincent who was staring at his feet with scrunched up eyebrows.
The room fell silent, when a knock from the door caught our attention. A woman in a white coat slid the door open and walked in.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Hensley. I assume you are her parents?" She asked holding out her hand to Dad.
"Blake Lee. This is my wife Lu," Dad replied shaking Dr. Hensley's hand.
"Is the boy family?" Dr. Hensley nodded towards Vincent.
"He's a family friend," Mother answered.
"I'm sorry, but at this moment I'd like to talk to family only. Could you step outside for a moment?" Dr. Hensley asked Vincent.
He nodded silently and left the room.
"Let's get straight to it," she started. "Violet here, has a broken arm, a stitched elbow and the right side of her back is hurt. Both shoulder and back are also badly bruised. Does she have any medical issues?"
Father nodded, "She has scoliosis at a 18 degree curve and a mild case of asthma."
"I see. So I assume it is curved to the right?"
"Yes," Dad confirmed.
"That explains it then. When she fell her backpack hit a nerve in the muscle that numbed the area. It is temporary, but as soon as the numbness fades, the pain will surface. I'll prescribe some pain relievers and I suggest that you meet with her specialist. I also expect to see her back in one week so we can check on her arm and remove the stitches. Sound good?" Dr. Hensley asked.
We all nodded in approval. She was speaking so quickly, I was worried her lungs lacked oxygen.
"Good. You can leave when the IV drip is empty, just call a nurse," she announced.
I nodded once more as she offered a curt smile and left.
Dad and Mother took a seat on the bench next to me. Mother was rubbing my cheek while Dad sighed, laying his hand over my knee.
"Can you guys grab me some milk and cookies? I looked from Dad to Mother. "Please?" I added.
They gave each other hesitant looks then nodded. Dad stood up and was going to leave when I stopped him.
"Wait, um. Can both of you guys go? I'd like to talk to Vincent..." I requested quietly.
Once more, they hesitated, but agreed. A minute after they left Vincent entered.
"Hey, how're you feeling?" He asked, looking everywhere else except at me.
"Why don't you see for yourself," I suggested. He slowly brought his mesmerizing eyes to me.
"I'm sorry" He muttered.
"For what?"
"This is my fault. Brooke did this to you because of me," he brought his gaze back down to his feet.
"Hey. Hey! Look at me," I commanded. He brought his regretful eyes back to mine.
"It's not your fault for being 'supernaturally handsome'," I quoted with a smirk.
The ends of his lips lightly twitched upwards, but disappeared without a trace.
I sighed not knowing how to comfort him. "This might sound conceited or over the top, but why do you always try to linger around me?"
He stares at me with intensity . "I like being with you."
"I told you already, I don't want to be friends. I don't need your pity, sympathy, et cetera. I've kept my distance for a reason-"
"What reason!" He interrupted.
I stared back at him. Unsure of how to respond.
"What reason, huh? I saw you that day. I saw how you pushed Brooke and Lily away without knowing their true intentions. What is your reason for pushing people away?!" He shouted. I stared at him, pressing my lips into a thin line and furrowing my brows.
"What if it's not pity nor sympathy for the lonely new kid? What if I'm genuinely interested in you? What if you take a chance? What if I like you?" His voice gradually softened, looking at me with care.
Silence blanketed the tension between us. As if on queue, Mother and Dad walked in with my milk and cookies, but Vincent and I don't tear away our gazes from each other.
"Oh. Did we interrupt..?" Dad asked.
"No. I was just leaving. Get well soon," Vincent stated nonchalantly, not once breaking our stare.
Finally, he looked toward Dad and Mother, giving them a slight nod and left.

Recently discovered that I've been spelling the word "minute" wrong. *pulls hair out of head* =,=
I use to spell it as "minute", but sometime in the sixth grade, a kid dogmatically told me it was spelt "minuet". A few days ago I pulled out a dictionary and looked up the two words, by gosh was I upset.
Haha, any-who, I hope everyone has a good day and uses correct spelling/grammar!Don't forget to like, comment and follow if you're enjoying this story!!
