"Reaper!" Yelled a familiar voice. It was his favorite guardian of positivity, but.. He sounded anything but happy.
"Dream, we need to stop meeting like this." Reaper gave a loose grin, standing over a soul to crush in his hands after just reaping it.
Their first meeting. As guardians.
Dream had tried to save a soul from ending their life prematurely, but Reaper was already there. He was too late.
".. I'm not here about that." Dream's voice leaked with professionalism and hinted with aggression.
"Where is my son?"
Reaper didn't respond, watching the body of the soul be dusted away into the air. He looked over his shoulder.
"You know how much I hate unfinished business." Reaper shrugged ominously. Dream's eyes didn't move.
"... I went to pick him up at Life's garden and she told me he went home with you. Where did you take my child?" Dream's slight glow to his body mirrored Reaper's dark and ominous fog of death.
A gentle kind of rage was pouring from Dream's very eye sockets.
"... I took him to finish what he needed to."
"You WHAT!?" Dream gasped, his hand shooting to clasp over his mouth.
"I didn't have time to babysit your kid, Drea-"
"It wasn't your job, it was Life's! If you hadn't just thrown him back into danger, he wouldn't be in the middle of STARS know where! I already tried searching for him in Dreamtale and couldn't pick him up anywhere!" Dream's voice shot at Reaper like he was nothing but a board for darts.
".. Really? I did drop him off at Dreamtale but I told him to hurry up and that I couldn't stick around for long." Reaper muttered, finally turning around to face Dream completely.
"So you did put my baby's life at risk?! Reaper I can't believe you!"
"He's not in any danger, Dream! Have you considered if he was, I would've bee-"
"That's not the point!" Dream yelled, approaching Reaper with a fatherly wrath. "Just because you don't care about your children doesn't me-"
"Don't." Reaper cut Dream off with a warning. "Your son has been dancing over death from the moment I met him. How many times has he nearly died? How many times has he died only for someone to save him!?"
Memories flashed across Dream's mind.
When he found Palette falling from the sky, an empty expression on his face and his legs crushed bone...
When he found Palette and Goth, Goth screaming for help as Palette lay on the ground, Goth being too afraid to touch him anymore than he already had.
When he found Palette about to be crushed by Underfell Undyne.
When he found Palette beaten up and bruised after he had gotten lost.
When he found Palette.
When he found Palette.
When he found Palette.
"It's not my fault your son has a death wish." Reaper spoke darkly, only to see a glint of metal.
He dodged quickly, Dream stood with a burning rage on his expression. The sun itself wouldn't dare rival the Guardian at this moment.
".. Don't you EVER. speak about my son that way." Dream warned.
Reaper didn't reply initially, drawing his scythe slowly. Dream narrowed his eyes.
