I sat in the living room looking down at my phone. Dozens of calls and texts and absolutely no reply from Jake. Tears fell down my cheeks as I looked through them all. He had read them but hadn’t responded to a single one. I didn’t know what was happening, but he had never gone this long without talking to me, and I was terrified that something horrible happened.
Dad walked over, placing a hand on top of my head, ruffling my hair before coming over in front of me. “Sweetheart, he probably has good reason, you know your brother, and he doesn’t do anything without good reason.”
“It’s been over a month dad, what if something bad happened? What if he needs help?”
“If they were in serious trouble, Belle would reach out to us even if Jake couldn’t you know that. She’s the best thing that could ever happen to this pack.”
“I know, but I just have a really bad feeling this time.” I looked up into his blue eyes, and he smiled.
“Just have some faith, sweetheart. Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to in the end. Look at everything your brother has been through, and now he has a beautiful, sweet mate, and they’re starting a family. It might get rough, but if there’s anything I know about Jake is that he will always make it work for the best. Despite everything your brother has always strove to protect everyone that’s important to him and that includes you Jaz. There’s probably a good reason he isn’t getting back to you.”
“But he reads all of my messages.”
“You know if I was in a situation and I knew it might put others in danger I wouldn’t reply to anyone either, but the fact that he reads them means he’s keeping an eye on you to make sure you’re not in danger Jaz. I’ll bet he’s listened to every message you’ve left him too he loves you and wouldn’t do this to hurt you.”
“I know.”
“Turn that frown upside down princess, your mom could use some help in the kitchen if you're up for it. It’ll take your mind off of things.” I nodded to him before slowly getting up off the couch, but I just couldn’t shake the feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something was horribly wrong.
Going to bed, I couldn’t sleep, so I silently got up and slipped outside. Maybe a run would make me feel better.
I shifted at the edge of the woods before taking off through them. I didn’t think about where I was going or anything. I just simply ran, letting my feet take me where they wanted to go.
When I came to the edge of the woods on the other side of the pack area, I stopped. I started to turn around to go back when I heard someone.
“That stupid hound never even found out, I made it look like he killed her.” Someone said out in the clearing, and I heard Darian laugh. Silently, I shifted back, pulling my phone out of my pocket. I started recording. Something I did as often as possible when this man was around.
“So he doesn’t even know I have his little mate?” Darian asked before once more laughing. This sick, mate steeling bastard. He had stolen several mates from many of the people that opposed him in the pack, doing unspeakable things to them.
“No sir, and with her, you have all the leverage you need, especially considering I found out she’s carrying his baby.”
“That baby would fetch me a pretty penny on the market. It’s a combination that has never happened before. A hellhound and a blood angel who would have ever guessed. Jake won’t know what hit him when he finds out that I have his little bitch. He will beg me to take him, but that would be stupid, do you know how much a blood angel’s blood goes for on the market?” I covered my mouth as I gasped in pure horror.
