A couple weeks passed slowly and we fell into a comfortable rhythm. Since we had gotten the letters about the trial games Jake stayed with me as much as possible and I was glad for it. I felt so much better being on the medication his father had given me and everything had pretty much gone back to normal.
Walking down the sidewalk holding hands with Jake I was perfectly happy, the sun was shining, the sky was a bright beautiful blue and it just felt perfect.
"Can we go on a run tonight? It looks like it's gong to be a clear night so we could see the stars and it's supposed to be a full moon."
"You act like I would say no to you love." I giggled at him.
"I mean you never know, you might just get tired of me." I said with a grin and he chuckled at me.
"That's not possible I could spend every second of every day with you and it still wouldn't be enough."
"You say that now wolf, but just wait until I start crying for no reason 24/7."
"I was thinking you were going to be more of the "I'm going to rip your throat out" 24/7 hormonal."
"You'd like that too much."
"It is rather entertaining, the look on that poor guy's face was absolutely priceless." I giggled thinking back to that poor guy that just simply crossed paths with me at the wrong time. Jake literally picked me up off of him as I was threatening far worse things than just ripping his throat out with my bare hands.
"I was so mean to him and he didn't even do anything other than walk in front of me as I tripped." He wrapped his arm around my waist pulling me to him.
"It's okay love, I took care of it."
"I know I just still feel bad." He held the door to the combat building open for me and we walked over to the locker rooms getting changed before going out back behind the building for skills advancement.
Walking into the locker room something immediately felt off considering I was the only one in there when normally when we get here there is at least 10 to 15 other girls in here with me. Looking around I decided to just quickly get changed. Turning to place my bag in the locker the lights flicked out and before I could react something slammed against the back of my head and everything went black.
I slowly came to, my head pounding, and my body felt like a sack of lead. Blinking my eyes open I started to panic. I couldn't see anything. Closing my eyes back I reached for my power feeling the pull of it I knew I hadn't been blinded.
My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest as something started making a soft beeping noise. "Belle?" I heard Jake's voice in my ear. Reaching up I felt the small device placed there. "Belle, I need you to calm down and listen." His tone was calm instantly allowing me to calm down a little and the beeping stopped. "We were taken for the trial game," he said before I heard him cough.
"Are you okay?" I asked, instantly worried about him. It sounded like he was hurt.
I heard him take a deep slightly gurgly breath, "I'll be okay, but I need you to listen to me. You're in a maze of sorts. We have to work together to get out of here." He coughed again, this time sounding far worse and I slowly started feeling around getting to my feet. "You have a device on your wrist that you cannot remove and if your heart rate increases too much it will lethally inject you, I have the same thing." I took a breath trying to relax slightly knowing that information.
"What do we have to do?" I asked, trying to get a bearing of where I was.
"I have a map to guide you out of where you're at and to me. I cannot leave this room, you have to come to me." He wheezed out a breath and the device on my wrist started beeping once more reminding me what was happening taking a breath I slowed my response back down.
