"Y/N, now stop making that face."

Ravenna sighed softly as she turned to her personal guard. Since Nathaniel's death a few weeks ago, Y/N had barely spoken, only when forced to. Her eyes were somber and filled with sadness and anger, not once had she laughed nor even smiled since the incident. It almost seemed that with his death, a part of her had died as well.

"I just don't understand why you let her survive. She deserved to die and you let her live on in that cell. I don't understand it Ravenna. Tell me, why do you kill everyone else but not her?" Y/N asked bitterly, staring into Ravenna's eyes. It wasn't the same look Ravenna was used to seeing. She no longer recognized the friendly warmth in the eyes that had once so fascinated her, and it was at that very moment that Ravenna realized what she had done. She had turned Y/N into a cold monster who was only out for revenge.

"Because I still need that brat. I still have a use for her," was Ravenna's prompt reply, and she rose from the chair in which she had just been sitting to face Y/N.
"For what?!" the latter merely hissed angrily. "What can you use someone like her for? She's guilty and she deserves to die."

Gradually Ravenna became angry, because she didn't like at all in what tone Y/N just spoke to her. "I'm not going to have her killed just because you want it that way!" When Y/N saw how angry Ravenna was at her words, she wished she could take back everything she had just said. But it was already too late, Ravenna grabbed Y/N by the collar and pulled her closer to her. "I am your queen and you will submit to my decision, is that clear?!" Ravenna's voice had become louder than it had ever been in Y/N's presence before. It made Y/N flinch a little and she averted her eyes when she couldn't seem to take it anymore. "Yes, my queen. Forgive me for questioning your decision."

Ravenna took a few deep breaths to calm her heated mind a bit. She let go of Y/N again and immediately turned away from her. "Good, don't ever do that again."

The queen straightened her shoulders a bit and started to leave the room. Y/N still looked at the floor, her hand clenched into a fist and she needed a moment before she also started to move and walked after Ravenna. She had to control herself better, her anger was directed at the other woman after all and not Ravenna herself. Y/N was still naive enough to believe that Ravenna had nothing to do with the incident.

Together they walked through the dark halls. Already then they had always been very gloomy, but since the event of a few weeks ago Y/N had the feeling as if this place had become even a little darker and more desolate.
They passed the room where everything had happened. The door was locked, but even then Y/N didn't dare look there. Her gaze lay stony on the path ahead as she followed Ravenna into the great hall of her throne room. She would be receiving a few guests again today. From desperate peasants to new potential candidates for her Kingsguard. Y/N had long since stopped caring about which people Ravenna was now receiving and which ones she was simply dragging before her throne to kill.

Y/N wished she wasn't bound by what her queen told her to do. If she wasn't, she would have gone down to the dungeons countless times and murdered the wench with her own hands. But she wasn't allowed to. Ravenna had forbidden her to do so, and she would abide by that, no matter how hard it was for her. Y/N wanted her revenge at last, but she was still loyal to Ravenna. Her word was law.

The hours passed. Hours in which Y/N simply stood beside Ravenna's throne, not moving a foot, but instead looking down at the people kneeling before it. One by one she saw older men asking for help with the harvest, but it was no use, the land they lived on was already completely destroyed and dried up. Nothing would thrive on this soil, so the complaints of these starving people were completely pointless.

"I think we're done here for today." Ravenna sounded even more bored than usual as she rose from her throne and slid down the steps, gesturing for Y/N to follow her. She was already about to follow her queen when the doors opened once more and a guard came rushing in. The boy seemed to be completely out of breath when he stopped. "My queen, one of the prisoners has escaped."
