Not So Bad

It was a quiet ride, no one spoke after Aang's out burst. You leaned your head over the edge of the basket, watching the sea below. Just sitting there was driving you nuts, between the silence and nothing to do you groaned. Looking over to your new travel buddies you saw Sokka passed out and Katara was weaving together some string. Boring. But you watched her anyways.

She noticed after a while and looked at you, "Did you want me to teach you how?"

You debated for a moment before getting up and sitting back down next to her, "Why not- there's nothing else to do."

So while you traveled Katara was walking you through making bracelets out of string. You finished a messy one and held it up proudly, "Ta da!"

"Oh it turned out well! You can give it to someone as a gift."

"Great! Here you go me, oh thanks me that is so thoughtful. It's even my favorite colors." You said as you tied it to your ankle.

Katara giggled, "I guess that works to."

"Duh- Self love is important."

Aang spoke from his seat up front, "We are here..."

You stood and hurried to behind him to see, your hand on is shoulder to stable yourself. "Home sweet! Home...." You trailed off when you saw the ruins of your home. "No..."

Appa landed as Katara shoved Sokka awake, you and Aang both had already hopped down and were looking around. You crouched down and picked up an old charm, covered in dirt. You rubbed some off with your thumb, "Their gone..."

"No! They have to be somewhere!" Aang insisted and walked off, Katara trailing him trying to reason with him.

Sokka walked up beside you, "This is horrible... it's worse than when they came for our village..."

You stood and sniffled, "How could someone do this? There were kids... babies... everything is gone..." You started to slowly walk around, Sokka stayed with you.

You kept wandering, making your way to your old room. Climbing the crumbled stairs slowly, almost scared to see what other damage there was. You entered the crumbling room and stepped over some rubble, looking around was heartbreaking. It felt like only a few days since you had last been here, but it wasn't. A hundred years stuck in an iceberg to come back to this horrid disaster. You sunk to your knees in the middle of the room, tears running down your face.

Sokka came in and looked around, he picked up a few things, adding whatever was still somewhat in one piece to his arms.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm taking whatever I can find... since it's just  you an Aang left. You should have something at least to remember your past." He said as he draped a singed and torn blanket over his shoulder.

"Thank you..." You gave a small smile and wiped your face with your hands.

He put out his hand to help you back to your feet, he smiled softly back. There was a moment where you both just stood there, as you appreciated his moment of kindness.

There was a massive bomb and dust started getting kicked up by a heavy wind, you both could hear Katara shouting in the distance. Both your eyes widened and you took off through the window, using air to cushion your landing as you followed to noise. Sokka took off out the door and was trying to not drop anything as he ran.
