Roanapur... the den of crime and corruption, where every kinda crook would love to reside in, rather than stayin' put in prison. I know, cos I even came to this rotten city after I managed to slip outta incarceration from the States - Weren't easy, but it was totally worth it. However... Roanapur ain't without any drawbacks, considerin' it's as dangerous as it was liberating. Instead, it's all unrest and fuckin' disorder, even though there's still some ground rules set by gangs and organised criminals. The one thing we all have in common, was that none of us are saints. Even the ones with all the pleasantries and smiley faces are utterly insidious.
I've been livin' in Roanapur since I was a kid... I was probably 17, or at least, around that age. Time can be a real bitch at times, especially when you're not keepin' up with the calendars. But movin' on, I started off bein' some bratty teen who could dive into deep seas to catch exotic fish or search for treasures. It was one of the only talents I got, besides shootin' a gun. Although Mr. Chang was the first to find me and had me as an associate on occasion, Dutch was who really brought me into the Lagoon Company and saw somethin' in me. The old guy looked out for me, as long as I was under his contract. Maybe, in some way, he saw me as... family. Heh, it kinda sounds funny, but maybe it's true?
Then, in 1994, there was this limey prick who called himself the "Grim Gunman," Tony Harper. Stubborn and turbulent, but at the same time, he was loyal to his friends and was one tough bastard. At first, I didn't wanna be partnered to some newbie, but Dutch insisted on it. Eventually, Tony and I grew closer and let ourselves a bit loose behind close doors in our free time. Over the years in the company, he showed me that not everythin' around ain't always doom and gloom - his words, not mine. There's still some nasty shit goin' on 'round the world itself... but, there's still plenty o' moments that might brighten somebody's day.
Thanks to Tony's words of encouragement, I opened up to him about my past days... and he understood. It was because even the poor bastard had it almost as rough as I did back in my shitty childhood in New York. He wasn't some fuckin' faker who pretended to be all sympathetic, no. This what made me love Tony even fuckin' more; he cares about me more than I thought and considers me more than just a goddamn gun-for-hire. We got engaged - Never thought he'd consider marriage 'til then.
