2021

Samara said her goodbyes to all her students as she put away the guitars left in her shop. Making her way the the cash register when she heard the bell of the front door ring.

"Hey how can I he-"she was cut off once she turned around.

There she was, the girl she hadn't seen in 10 years. The girl she waited on for 15.

"Did you send this!? Is this some sick way into getting me to talk to you!" responded the shorter woman while slamming a postcard on the glass table where the cash register was at.

"You really think I sent that. I got one too. You really would think I would still want to talk to you after wasting 15 years of my pathetic life for you." Said Samara while clenching her jaw.

"I-uh-I thought-" "you thought what Natalie that after 25 years I would still be waiting. Your unbelievable you understand that" chuckled Samara.

"Look Mara-" "Don't call me that! No one calls me Mara anymore" sighed Samara leaning against the wall as she started at Natalie.

"Samara I'm sorry alright I just-" Natalie was cut off by running footsteps coming from the back door.

"Mom!" came in a kid with curly hair who was about 10 years old.

"Hey buddy how was practice" smiled Samara her demeanor immediately changing.

"It was good. I scored a goal!" "That's good buddy how about you go in the back and practice on your guitar while Mom talks to her friend. Ok?" Samara said while looking up to see Natalie looking at them shocked.

"Ok!" responded her son while running to the back.

"You have a son!? I thought you said you would never have kids after- after what happened to-" Asked Natalie as she looked at Samara shocked.

"He's not mine. He's Tony's." Samara said clearing her throat.

"After those 15 years I finally went to go find him but I was to late when I found him. He uh- he had cancer, leukemia.
He left Mateo to me and made me promise to always protect him. So do you know how I felt finding that postcard in the front of my porch with that symbol. I promised myself to never let what happened in the past affect Mateo" finished Samara.

"I'm sorry Ma- Samara" said Natalie almost letting the old nickname slip out.

"Natalie what are you doing here" hearing her full name come out of Maras mouth Natalie felt her heart hurt. She would always be Nat or Natty even though she "hated" it.

"I'm surprised you came here. Shouldn't you be with Travis partying somewhere high off your mind." Replied the taller girl taking off her jacket leaving her in a white t shirt.

"I just got out of rehab and I uh found this- you got the tattoo removed?" Asked Natalie staring at where a N and a heart was. That was samaras first tattoo it laid on her left arm right on the side.

"Natalie are you ok?"

"Sorry what?"

"I asked if you need a place to sleep"

"I uh have to go" Natalie said quickly leaving the store.

Leaving Samara standing there letting out a sigh. As she looked at her phone that was now ringing. Once the ringing ended a voicemail notification popped up making Samara click it quickly.

"Hey Samara it's Misty- Quigley has Natalie gone to you she kinda popped up out of nowhere with a shotgun. Also did you get the post card too. I got one as well and no I didn't send it if that's what your wondering. Call me back when you can."

"Fucking Misty"
