"Incoming ForestClan warrior!"
Gingerstar looked up from his mouse. Bluepaw was staring at Treepaw, her tail curled up with excitement. She crouched. "Foreststar, prepare to die!"
"No, Tigerspot!" Treepaw jumped at Bluepaw, but his sister swatted his belly before she rolled away. "Ugh!" Treepaw shot a paw at Bluepaw. The gray she-cat did the same thing, and she knocked her brother onto the ground.
Gingerstar locked his eyes on Treepaw. He was flicking his ears, like what Foreststar had done in the fight when Tigerspot had knocked him down. Gingerstar turned to his sister Herb. She was also watching the two apprentices.
Bluepaw put a paw on Treepaw's belly when he was laying down. "Get up, slow slug!"
"Fine!" Treepaw moaned when he struggled up. "You worn me out. I just want to sleep."
Bluepaw flexed her shoulders. "GingerClan always wins!" She mewed. "And that is-"
"Because we have strong toms,"" Treepaw finished, sticking out his tongue.
"Well, I'll be the strongest she-cat!" Bluepaw unsheathed her claws. She grinned at her brother. "Let's find some moss for Oatfeather. He's been complaining about his bedding."
Gingerstar narrowed his eyes when they started to go to the old monster. Every apprentice went over there to get moss. Some met other cats there. Gingerstar walked over to where three warriors were talking. They were Darkfeather, Icewhisker and Nightgaze.
"Hey, my warriors," Gingerstar meowed. "Bluepaw and Treepaw are going to the old monster, so can you three watch them?"
Darkfeather slitted her eyes. "Gingerstar, you have to trust them. You should just leave the two alone. If they are meeting other cats there, they will realize soon enough that they are breaking the warrior code."
"But-"
"Listen to Darkfeather," Icewhisker mewed. "She's the senior warrior."
Darkfeather twitched her tail tip to Icewhisker. She flicked her ears. "Gingerstar, do you remember when the leaders were on the journey?"
Gingerstar sighed. "I do, Darkfeather."
"Pretend it was right now. Let's say Bluepaw and Treepaw are your parents. What if they ran away from the patrol? Foreststar was the one who found the Moon Crystal. We wouldn't have Clans if he didn't find it."
"But he's dead!" Gingerstar blurted out, fur on his shoulders rising. "Besides, Beestar wasn't on the journey patrol. She was just eating and eating."
Nightgaze stepped up. "And you can spy on them yourself, Gingerstar."
The leader sighed. "Okay, but I might get attacked by two apprentices."
Gingerstar started to walk around the trees to get out of the camp. He crouched. The ginger tom went into the shade and looked at the old monster.
Bluepaw was sitting down next to the monster, but Treepaw wasn't there. Gingerstar bristled with fear. He could smell three other cats coming.
Then the three cats appeared. They were apprentices. Dovepaw from ForestClan, Leafpaw from GorseClan and Snowpaw from StreamClan.
"Hey guys!" Snowpaw squeaked. She was the last one to get to the monster. "Woodclaw scratched me on the cheek when I told him I was going to make dirt. StarClan!"
"I'm glad you made it," Bluepaw said. "Anyways, I fought Treepaw today and beat him!"
Leafpaw purred, his ears going up. "Great job! Did you use the way I taught you?"
