Sharpleaf unsheathed his claws. "You don't deserve to be in Clan territory!"
"But-"
"Listen to Sharpleaf," Gorsestar meowed. "You are in Clan territory. You must get out."
Sharpleaf glared at the she-cat. She was a silver tabby she-cat with green eyes.
"I want to be with the Clans!" The she-cat stopped to lick her paw. She stopped grooming and continued. "I'm a really good hunter! I could catch a squirrel!"
Beestar twitched her tail. "If you can catch a ton of fresh-kill, we can accept you. But you must know how to fight. What is your name?"
"It's Silver!"
When Silver told them her name, Gorsestar lept at Silver. The she-cat yowled and rolled away. Gorsestar landed in the dirt. Silver jumped at him, but she jumped too high. She landed in front of him.
Gorsestar flung himself at her, claws outstretched. He got a blow at Silver, but the she-cat jumped to the side.
"Stop trying to get away from me!" Gorsestar flung himself at Silver again. The kittypet went under his belly but she didn't slash at it. Gorsestar grabbed onto Silver's back and tackled her in front of Sharpleaf and Beestar.
Gorsestar pinned Silver by her neck. He turned to Beestar. "I handled her easily," Gorsestar snickered.
Beestar looked at Silver. "She is just a kittypet. I didn't expect her to beat you."
Of course you didn't. Sharpleaf wanted to attack Gorsestar and show him what a true fighter was, but he didn't.
"If you can handle any cats," Beestar turned to Sharpleaf. "Attack him."
"Easy!"
Gorsestar let Silver go and he flung himself at Sharpleaf. Sharpleaf let Gorsestar pin him.
"Easy again!" Gorsestar tried to sink his teeth into Sharpleaf's neck, but the warrior pushed him away. Gorsestar dug his claws into the dirt, which was covered in snow, and growled.
Gorsestar twitched his whiskers and flicked his ears back. "You don't deserve to be a warrior!"
Sharpleaf ignored him and jumped. He scratched Gorsestar's chin. The ginger tom yowled. He tried to roll away, but Sharpleaf pinned him. The brown tom hissed with pride and turned to look at Beestar.
"I can handle any warrior," Sharpleaf meowed, taking a glance at Gorsestar.
The GorseClan leader hissed, but Sharpleaf put a paw on his neck to stop him from talking. "Maybe he is always easy."
"I'll show you easy!" Gorsestar scratched Sharpleaf's belly. The brown tom scowled with pain and backed off Gorsestar. The GorseClan leader tackled Sharpleaf.
The two toms wrestled around. Gorsestar scratched Sharpleaf's ear. Sharpleaf growled. He scrambled out of the former leader's grip.
Beestar stepped up. "Claws should always be sheathed," she meowed when Gorsestar got to his paws. "Unless it is a real battle. Silver did the right thing. She can join."
Sharpleaf groomed. Gorsestar had started it.
"What do I do?" Silver asked.
Beestar turned to the kittypet. "Fresh-kill is scarce in the Clans, so I'd like you to hunt."
Silver nodded. "Okay! Can I see your home first?"
The patrol of cats walked back to the camp. They pushed through the pile of snow.
"Ick!" Silver shrieked. "I hate snow!"
"You'll have to get used to it," Beestar meowed.
