Bluespot got up. The cats were so close to the mountains that it seemed like a couple of fox-lengths away! She followed the patrol of cats.
While jumping over branches in the snow, Bluespot thought about the mountains.
There will be a ton of prey I hope! The mountains will be tall and scary...
"We're in mountain territory!" Stoneteller meowed. He sniffed the air. "Dust. I think Twolegs work in the mountains with their large monsters."
Gingerstar nodded in agreement. "I think you are right. I can smell Twoleg scent."
The cats jumped over a fence and arrived at the mountains. They were in front of the largest one.
"Wow!" The tabby kit bounced to the mountain. "It's so huge! It's super-"
"Shush." Stoneteller pushed him away. He pushed himself up the mountain. "Everyone, come on!"
Bluespot climbed after the cats. She felt pride rush through her. She was one of the first cats to climb the mountains! Bluespot stopped when the other cats did. Stoneteller sniffed at the dirt.
"We should dig here," he said. He started to claw the dirt out.
Every cat helped. When they finished, the cats walked inside the cave. Bluespot wrinkled her nose at the dust. It was all in the cave.
Tribe cats and warriors had their own tunnels. Bluespot watched the snow fall from the sky. It made her wonder about the Clans. How were they doing?
"Bluespot!" Gingerstar walked out of the warrior tunnel. "Me, Sweet Moon and Light Song are going to hunt."
Bluespot nodded. She walked over to her tunnel.
Treefur and Snoweyes were sleeping next to each other. Bluespot twitched her ears. She walked out of the tunnels. Stoneteller was lying next to the Tribe cat tunnel with Bristling Lion. The other cats were in the tunnel, unless they were hunting or guarding.
"Bluey!" A black and white kit bounced over to Bluespot. She squeaked when she noticed how big Bluespot was. "Ahh! Warrior! Help me, Tribe!"
Two more kits ran over to the kit. They pounced onto Bluespot.
"Don't mess with the Tribe of Endless Water!" The tabby kit nipped at Bluespot's ear, but the gray she-cat nudged him off. The kit dropped onto the ground.
Bluespot chuckled. She grabbed a gray tabby she-cat in her mouth and put her onto the ground. "Maybe you three should get a piece of fresh-kill."
The tabby tom-kit snorted. "I don't like mice and rabbits. I'd rather eat eagle!"
"The Tribe eats eagles?"
"Of course." Bluespot flinched when she heard a voice. She looked over her shoulder. Cougar was walking over to the four cats, tail up.
"Eagles usually attack the Tribe," Cougar meowed. "Usually hawks and little birds attack us. When eagles come, though, we're ready."
Bluespot blinked. "In the Clans, birds don't attack us. They are our prey. I can't imagine an eagle hurting a cat."
Cougar shivered. "Eagles don't hurt cats, they usually take them. Eagles feed cats to their chicks or for themselves, or maybe their mate."
I never knew that. Bluespot looked at Cougar. He was a tan and white tom with a blue collar. "I can see that you are a kittypet," Bluespot said, flicking her tail to Cougar. "Your collar gives it away."
"I used to be," Cougar mewed. He flexed his shoulders. "But now I am a cave-guard. I would die a million times to protect the Tribe of Endless Water."
Bluespot purred. She liked this cat. "Well, can you bring the kits to their mother?" She asked Cougar.
