I was in a meeting with some visiting alphas from the West Coast. Father had me meeting with them, as he wanted me to start to take over more pack responsibilities. I knew he was thinking of retiring soon. That was why he pushed so hard for me to take over both our pack and human responsibilities. The alphas were from prominent cities on the west coast. They wanted to form alliances with us. They were telling us about rogues who were forming packs of their own and attacking established packs out of revenge for kicking them out. It was then that a loud scream pierced my head. I clutched the side of my head with my hand.
"CALLAHAN," Mira screamed in my head. I could feel fear and panic rolling through my body in wves. My wolf began to howl, something was wrong. I looked over at Deacon, he was trying to loosen his tie. I knew he could feel it too. Something had happened to the girls. Something that isn't good.
"If you would excuse us for a moment gentlemen. I must discuss something with my beta," I said standing. All the alphas nodded at us, their eyes following us as we left the conference room. They all had curious gazes, most had mates of their own. They must have noticed something was off. I leaned against the wall, trying to steady my breathing. The anxiety and fear only grew in my head. Something was definitely wrong with Mira. My wolf was clawing the barrier.
"Something happened to Mira, I just heard her scream for me," I said. Deacon's eyes widened in shock. As if he experienced the same thing.
"I did too, but it was Liz who was screaming," Deacon said. I saw Cynthia walking toward us. Her eyes showed pure terror. Cynthia was one of ours, and also my personal assistant. She had been working for me for years. She was holding her ipad.
"Mr. Darcy, I think you should see this," she said. She handed me her Ipad. It was news coverage, there had been an attack on Reed's Publishing. Video of shattered windows and police swarming th scene. I felt my blood run cold. My phone began to vibrate, I took it out and saw it was one of our scouts. I hit answer and put it on speaker phone.
"Speak," I hissed. Hoping that Mira was ok, that she had survived this attack on her work. That she didn't die in this attack. That Liz didn't die in this attack. The news coverage had no casualties to report at this time. Deacon and I had just found our mates. We can't lose them so soon. That would destroy not only us, but the pack as well.
"There has been an attack on Reed's Publishing. Mira and Liz have been kidnapped. We suspect it was Tony Bracco, we caught his scent at the scene," the scout said.
"Why didn't you stop him," I shouted into the phone. Deacon looked furious. He had his fists clenched. They should have been there to protect them. They should have gone in the moment they caught his scent. Why didn't they?
"We also caught the scent of a hunter, alpha," he said. I felt my blood go even colder. No doubt the attack on Mira had spurred a nearby hunter into action. But they had gotten to the scene too quickly. Far too quickly for my liking. I didn't want my pack in the cross hairs of a hunter.
"Track Bracco's scent. Call me when you have something," I said. I hit the end call. Then my father's name popped up on my phone. I hit the answer and pressed the phone to my ear. My wolf seething in me.
"What," I growled. I couldn't deal with him right now. Mira has been kidnapped. I need to be out there looking for her. She needed me to be looking for her.
"I can sense your wolf Cal, he is going crazy. It was then I got the news about Reed's," he said. I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"The scouts caught his scent, but they also caught the scent of a hunter," I said. I heard my father snarl into the phone.
