TITLE: THE DARKEST MINDS

AUTHOR: ALEXANDRA BRACKEN

RATE: 5 STARS

The Darkest Minds is another one of my favorite books. Now I read it last year but I still remember how I loved this book! This book came out more recently than Looking for Alaska by John Green(a book I did previously) but not that long ago, 2012. This books is my favorite genre, dystopian future. For those of you who don't already know this but there are two kinds of topian genres, Dystopian, meaning the in the future, the place is under control of a corrupted government and Utopian, meaning the place is at peace. I personally enjoy the corrupted ones. Anyway, the main character Ruby, is living through the time period of the transition from Utopian to dsytopian. A uncontrollable disease is taking the children of the united states killing them all but a few. Those who survive wake with powers. They are majorly disliked by the government because they are seen as monsters who can't be controlled and that scares them so thy lock them up in a concentration camp being tortured and forced to work. This has been Ruby's life for the past 6 years. She has gotten somewhat good treatment because of her color. When they arrived at the camp they were given a color bases on what there powers were. Green, being the least dangerous are very smart. This is what Ruby is marked as. Then there are blues who has telekinesis, moving objects with their minds. Yellows, being able to control energy and electricity. Oranges, have telepathy, being able to control what they see or change their memories. Finally there are the Reds who have the power to control or make fire with their minds. One day though something happens and Ruby finds that she is not a green, rather, and orange. One of the most dangerous who are killed on the spot. Ruby has to hide her powers or be killed but someone finds out. Luckily, it's a person working on the inside helping Reds and Oranges escape. Ruby gets out of the camp and is being chased by the government. Then she meets another group of kid who have also escaped and are looking for a hidden paradise. They have to fight every day just to survive. I absolutely LOVED this book. It is a trilogy with the second book being Never Fade and the third book which came out this year being In the After light. THE DARKEST MINDS NEVERFADE IN THE AFTER LIGHT. You should really check this book out if you enjoy this genre or am looking for something different to read!
