The café is busy as usual. I kept on glancing at the clock and in just few minutes I will be clocking out to attend an internship interview at SBA Media Group of Companies. This is my only chance of scoring internship at one of the most popular media network here in South Korea. I need to get it. I will also be graduating in few months. I need to land a proper job here before my study visa expires. I need to get that internship.
I have been working part time here while juggling it along with my part time teaching at the hagwon or academy and studying Creative Writing at Hangkuk University. I admit it wasn't easy to juggle everything. My schedule is always full. I take morning classes for school, I work at the café from afternoon until 9pm and I work teaching English at the academy on weekends.
Aside from leaving home to study and work here, It was a risk I took to fulfill my dreams of becoming a script writer for K-dramas here. I can't go home not accomplishing anything but the competition here in Seoul is quite challenging. Even the societal pressures will definitely mess up with your mental health yet here we are.
I continued serving few more coffee to customers who ordered until the clock strikes at 3pm. I already asked permission earlier about my errands so I clocked out early from the café and immediately changed clothes before rushing towards SBA for my internship interview scheduled at 3:30pm. I took a taxi to make sure that I will arrive just in time.
Meanwhile at the taxi cab, I practiced in the back of my mind and creating a scenario on how to answer the possible questions that will be asked to me. I came prepared this time. However, we got stuck in a traffic.
"Ajhussi, I have an interview in few minutes, can't you please go faster with the driving?" I asked him politely in Korean.
"Mianhae. We are in a traffic. There is no other route to SBA. It is already rush hour." He said in apologetically Korean.
This won't do. I won't really make it in time if I stay here. I checked my current location. SBA's building is just few more blocks from where were are. I can ran going there. So I immediately paid the taxi driver and went out. I ran on my heels in the middle of the traffic.
I can hear the cars honking at me as I ran for my life. I am almost there just few blocks then turn right, I will make it in time. I checked my watch it is almost 3:30PM. I need to get there now. I didn't stop running to catch my breath nor rest because I might already trip with my heels but I went forth. I am determined to arrive there before 3:30PM.
I kept running until I finally sighted SBA's building. Finally, I am almost there. Time check, I only have 5 minutes before 3:30. I ran as if it was the my last and finally I am inside the building. I took a deep breath to catch my breath before telling the receptionist about my appointment for today.
"I'm here for the internship interview for Script Writers. I have an appointment. Kayleen Dela Cruz." I told the receptionist while still calming myself and catching my breath after that sprint just to be here.
"Can I get your ID, miss?" She asked politely.
I opened my bag and pull out one of my IDs and gave it to her.
"Internship interviews will be on the 19th floor. Storyboard Room 321." said the receptionist and smiled as she gave me the visitor pass.
"Ne, Gamsahamnida." I thanked her and smiled while leaving her my identification card in exchange of the visitor's pass.
"Hwaiting!" She said back to me. It made me smile somehow. At least, there is someone cheering for me here.
I immediately ran towards the gates and used the visitor pass by tapping it on the machine to pass through it. I rushed for the elevator and pushed the button for the 19th floor. I took a deep breath while mentally preparing myself for the interview. I took out my pocket mirror to check if my make-up is still fine. I realized that I had to do some retouch. So I immediately took out my press power and immediately applied some of it on my face. I don't mind much doing it inside the elevator since I am the only one inside. I also immediately applied a little lipstick so that I won't look pale during the interview.
