Not Insane, just different

Chapter 4 - The Real Test

Tori and I thought about what they said for a minute, and questioned it. What were they talking about? I don't know why, but when I need to think or get away from problems, I walk around for a while, and that's just what I did

Does this mean I'm insane?

Will they try to cure me or keep me the way I am?

Is the way I am known as....a freak to everyone else?

I didn't want to use that word, even though I knew it was going to be that way. I felt like as soon as they told me about this...my life just...changed. I felt like I had nothing. I lost my old life. I lost my freedom and had to stay in this stupid hell hole. I just figured out that I'm a freak. Can anything else go worse? Of course it can.

Suddenly, I heard a loud crash come from behind me. Was it room 9 again? I turned around and saw Aiden to my surprise, lying on the floor and coughing hard.

"DUDE WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE!" I scream at his face. I didn't expect him at all, what a good jumpscare.

"About the powers thing....they were right, but they're going to kill you!" He replied weakly as he tried to get up.

"Thats...why I came back....to...rescue you two..." he finally finished.

"What do you mean?"

"I'll tell you later. ..as in, we're escaping. NOW!"

He grabbed my hand, and pulled me back from the door he came out of. It was dark in there, I think it was some kind of emergency exit, but I'm not sure. Thankfully, it lead to outside. We ran, pretty far. I think I got a cramp halfway too. It was worse than 800M in Track and field, it was like an ongoing game of Temple Run. Finally, we ran into a forest, and up on some tree, was Sarah, playing around with some leafs. In fact, Tori was there too, eating some fruit, maybe an apple.

"Took you long enough, I grew a beard waiting for you!" Sarah says as she jumps off the tree and walks up to me. "Did you tell her about the thing?"

"What thing?" I scream at her. Before, I felt sad and weak. Now, I felt tired and pissed off. Aiden started off.

"Alright..the reason why we wanted you both to escape was because....there all going to kill you."

" But why?"

"Well, I was eavesdropping on one of the conversations. They were basically saying that when they read your files off the computer, they had no cure, and will try to trick you into thinking it's a test your going to, but there going to kill you with special drugs."

"Now they're going to look for us...what do we do?"

"Basically...we're wild runaways."

The thought of that sentence made me feel sad. We were like run away kids, on the streets, while insane doctors want to kill us because we have special powers.....that's why we were stuck at that asylum....

"Where did they go? Check the video cameras, we need to find them before midnight!"

" Why exactly at midnight? I know we need to bring them back, but is today really necessary?"

"Of course. I don't know if they believed the fact of them being able to see and feel the spirits and shadows, but they have to believe the theory over what they can do, and they need to find out fast, because what they don't know.....is that by midnight, when spirits and shadows ARE lurking around, and they're going to become one themselves. The process is very dangerous....

"Were seriously having dinner at a gas station?"

"A bag of chips and energy drinks is good enough, we don't need no fancy dinner." Aiden said, making me drink the cold drink.

" ugh...but where are we going to sleep?" Sarah asked.

" I didn't think about it....maybe in a forest?"

"If I get eaten, I hope you die after."

After we finished "dinner", we went into the same forest we ran in, and Aiden set up a hammock. Sarah and Aiden slept on that, me and Tori made a bed and blanket with whatever we could find old rags, garbage, and leafs. And logs were our pillows. Fun.

I couldn't sleep at all. We went to bed at 11:21PM. It's almost 12 now. Ugh, I can't sleep. I turned to glance at Tori.

"Hey, Tori, you awake?"

"........yeah, I can't sleep."

"Neither can I, but somehow, both Sarah and Aiden can. I bet it's because they got the good bed. "

"Obviously. They treat us like crap and get stuff for themselves. Like Sarah gets all the attention from the parents to make them love her more than me."

" And Aiden barely listens to me. No matter what, he does what's best for him, not us."

I knew we sounded selfish, but I couldn't help it. In the past, they made our lives hell. We learned to deal with it, but I guess we both just can't ever forgive them over it.

Suddenly, I got a weird feeling.

"....Tori......I swear I feel weird..."

"I dont, but-"

Tori sat straight up, her eyes wide, her pupils small, as of she just woke up from a nightmare.

"I feel....light..."

"I feeldark, like I can see through the the bushes and..."

I don't know what happened, but I couldn't see anything. My eyes became pitch black or something. I couldn't see that though, all I could see was black. Tori was gone to me. The world was gone.
