"Are you joking?"

"No layla, I'm not."

"Is this all a prank to make me look stupid?"

"NO."

"Are you serious?"

He gave me an annoyed look, before showing off his sarcasm skills.

"No....I'm completely laughing and joking around with you...of course I'm serious!" He yelled.

This guy; Shadow Man, had just admitted, that he was our father.

"So is that why you kept sounding like one and and treating me like a little kid!" I finally realize. All he did was shrug.

"I guess, I was more protecting you guys, since I care about you all."

"Is this why I'm a shadow? Because of genetics?"

"Sure I guess..." he just looked relieved, like he just admitted something bad and didn't get a punishment. I was about to say something too, until my phone went off...with a message from tori.

"Yo laylerz...we got a problem."

I replied back instantly. It took a while to send, but it eventually happened.

"What did you do this time?"

"Sarah's not feeling alright... I think you know what's happened now."

"is she suffering bad like Aiden was?"

"Worse, she's starting to get mad easily, and when she does, some weird static electricity comes through her fingers, and I'm telling you, it's quite shocking."

"On my way as fast as possible."

I told "dad" the news, and we took off.

"Hold on, we're still shadows, I can easily teleport us back within a second."

"Normally, I would want an adventure, but this time, let's just go the faster way."

He held on to me, and we literally just vansished. It's like looking into a forest, and then all of a sudden, the background changes. We were now straight at Honey's door. Alright, I liked one thing about this guy. He just saved me a good 2 hours of more walking. I grabbed the key from the bag of stuff Honey gave me. I unlocked the door and Tori came rushing to me.

"Girl, don't EVER leave me alone with that Tasmanian Devil!!!!!" She screamed and pointed to Sarah in the corner. Her hair was all over, covering her face, and she was curled up in a ball. She looked like one of my biggest fears; being chased by a dead crawling child.

"Uh... that's a nice prop a guest would want to see." I say, still looking at Sarah.

" STOP TALKING CRAP ABOUT ME!!!!" She wailed.

"Dude were not, calm down." Tori says, giving her a weird look. To be honest, I would too.

"YES YOU ARE!!!" She screams. Then I spoke up.

"Alright, I'm done here. Anyway, guess what-"

I looked at "dad" who was putting a finger on his lips, telling me to stay quiet, so he KNOWS I was going to say something.

"Layla, you ok?"

"Uh....oh yeah, guess what? Aiden's back and safe!"

"....like I didn't notice THAT before."

" anyway, well, I'm leaving, to my room." And with that, I go upstairs and look around. I was sharing with Tori, and it was already a mess on one side, so I took the other.

Isn't this amazing? A family of runaways are finally safe, and yet I'm still confused over my life.

I also just realized that I didn't turn the room light on. I just walked in, and the window was open, so the moonlight was light enough. I ploped onto my bed and stared at the ceiling. There was a ghostly face on it, and it really reminded me of something I had seen as a child...quite odd actually. Then, dad walked in on me.

"Hey, long day huh?"

I just sighed. I know what was going to happen next.

"Look at the bright side...your safe for now, you got this."

"I guess...but all I can think about is my old life."

"That's just the past. We all forget about it, and think about the future."

"But sometimes...all you gotta do....is...forget about THAT too....and forget...all donut everything."

I swear my eyelids felt heavier and like I couldn't stop them from staying open...then...

I had fallen asleep.

Worse, I forgot to change, so I was still rocking blue jeans and an Aeropostale shirt. I also skipped dinner, which was a high reason why I was hungry. And finally, the ghostly thing on the wall...was gone. Oh well, I was tired. That must've been a hallucination. Plus "dad" comes only from 12 to 6, so he was gone for the day, unless he popped up out of nowhere again. I quickly got ready and checked on what everyone else was doing.

Tori and Sarah were in bed.

Aiden was on his tablet while sipping a cup.

Honey was out shopping for the day.

I quickly snuck downstairs while no one noticed and decided to go out to get breakfast. But before leaving, I passed by the closet door, that had a note on it.

Another shadow?

Welcome to hell girl. I suggest you get out of here, or I'll do the same thing that happened to your mom.

Well, that was nightmare fuel. I was quickly terrified over this, and ran out the door. After all, it DID tell me to "get out". I went to a nearby Daisy Mart and grabbed an energy bar and a drink. Then, I headed straight for home...until I got a feeling. I started to look around. Then, I got controlled.

Let's go to the creepy tree alone.

I went to where I was thinking about and stared around. I thought about childhood. I thought about the shadow guy, I thought about fighting someone to death, and I thought about who my mom was. I quickly snapped out of it and looked at myself.

What the fuck am I doing?

I run back home before anyone knows I'm home. I didn't give a damn about the note I saw before. I didn't want to get caught. There, no one found out. Except for one guy, and he didn't look happy.

In fact, I don't think he belonged on Earth anyway.
