Where the sun once laid, there is now nothing but a dark shade of gray in the sky. No clouds. No sun. Just a plain, dark, atmosphere. What the hell was happening?
I got up slowly, looking around to see if any one else had noticed this. But everyone was asleep. I look over and see Minho fast asleep. Normally he is awake bright and early, but I guess now there's no way to tell if it's morning.
I groan and clench my hands into fists. Gally has always been talking about how things have been changing, could this be one more of the changes? First Thomas, then me, then Teresa... And now this. I walk over to Minho and wake him by shaking his shoulders. His eyes open groggily. "Anna, what -?" He starts but he stops when he sees the gray sky.
He glances over at me, his eyes wide. "What the shuck is that?" Minho says, standing up and pointing to the sky.
"No clue..." I reply. Minho stares at me for a moment, his face with overrun with confusion. I couldn't agree more, though. This was some confusing and worrisome shit.
Minho walks around the group of sleeping Gladers and yells, "Everyone wake up!"
He looks over at me. "Go get Thomas. He's in the Deadheads."
I nod, and jog off, leaving the groaning and whining Gladers with Minho. "What the bloody hell is going on?" I heard Newt scream.
Pushing through some trees, I make me way through the Deadheads, every once in a while stumbling on a gravestone. I walk off, and then slam into someone's chest.
I stumble backwards and look up to see Thomas, who has Minho's same expression of worry and confusion. "Anna!" he says and touches my arm. "What's going on? What's up with the sky?"
"I don't know... Minho asked me to come and find you," I respond. "This isn't normal, is it?"
"Nope," Thomas says and gestures for me to come as he runs off into the woods. I follow him. In a few minutes we are back at the Glade, where Newt is trying to handle the situation.
"Do you know how this happened?"
"No - do I look like a buggin encyclopedia? How am I supposed to know why the sky was replaced with... This!"
"Are we still running today? Or should we stay and try to help figure this out?"
"Yes, Minho, you're still running."
"Does this have anything to do with that girl?"
"I DON'T KNOW. Okay, I have no clue why this happening, why that bloody girl came, or why the Box hasn't gone back down. Stop asking me questions, let's just try to figure this thing out together!" Newt says, throwing his hands in the air. Thomas and I rejoin the group of boys mobbing Newt with questions. People continue to ask questions - "We want an explanation!" - "Why has everything been changing?" - until Gally screams over the voices of the Gladers.
"This is Thomas' fault, don't you realize that!"
Minho steps forward, "Gally this isn't Thomas' fault, it's most likely the shucking Creators fault!"
Gally shakes his head. "No. Sure, the Creators have something to do with this, I mean, Thomas couldn't've built a giant gray dome overnight, now, could he? But I bet anything that this shank," he gestures to Thomas. "Has something to with this! With all of this! Everything starting changing the day you showed up! Grievers were found dead, people getting stung in broad daylight, the Greenie killing a shucking griever! We've been here two years and this guy shows up and kills him within, what, a day? Maybe two? And then this girl came walking into the Glade from the Maze. I mean - what the hell?! Next that girl came here, the last. Greenie. Ever. And we've never got a girl before. Now this! You can't look me in the eyes and tell me that you think he is totally innocent!"
"Hey, it's not Thomas' fault!" I say defiantly and push through the crowd, coming face to face with Gally. His hideous blue eyes pierce into mine.
"You're right," he says and chuckles absentmindedly. "You know what, Anna here is absolutely right! Maybe Thomas isn't the guilty one." Gally steps forward, his finger pointed towards me. "Maybe you're the one causing all this! Maybe you're the person who made the sky turn gray. Maybe you're the one who made the Box stop going down. Maybe you're -"
Minho walks up to us, placing his hand in between us. "Hey, Gally! This isn't Thomas' fault, this isn't Anna's fault!" He shoves Gally backwards, and places his hand on the small of my back.
"Gally - you really think that I wanted this to happen? Every day I have to worry about whether I'll be alive tomorrow!" I say and step forward, wanting to punch his sad little face. Who does he think he is, accusing myself and one of my best friends for changing things?
"Yeah, man, you're being ridiculous," Frypan says.
"Couldn't agree more," Newt adds.
Gally looks angrily throughout the crowd. "You think that this all just happened? That no one is behind this?"
"Gally we know exactly who's behind this," Thomas says. "The Creators."
He throws his hands in the air, and chuckles again. Part of him sounds like he's going completely insane. "The Creators have killed some of us before, I'll admit it. But nothing like this has ever happened! We've been here two years -"
"Yeah, you've been here two years and you're still here! Maybe it's time that things have changed! Maybe it's time that we find a way out!" Thomas yells and walks up to Gally, his fists clenched at his fist.
"He's right. I've been in the Maze too long. It's time we find a way out," I add in.
Gally glares at me, his eyes slits. "You don't understand anything, Greenie. We've had these rules for years, it's the only that that's smelt us alive. But now you just want to abandon these rules, because of him? Because of amazing, superior, Thomas, who killed a griever? That's cute, but we can't just leave."
"There's a way out, Gally! There has to be! Just because you don't see it doesn't mean we all have to give up hope!" Thomas says. A long silence passes between the two, and as Newt begins to say, "Alright, guys, cut it-"
But he abruptly stops talking when Gally's fist connects with Thomas' jaw. "Whoa, stop it! Both of you!" Newt screams. Frypan, Winston, and another Glader hold back Gally as Minho, Zart, and I hold back Thomas. Thomas struggles in our grip, and yells, "Let me at him!"
"Can't let you do that, shuck-face," Minho says and holds him back, and Thomas pushes against our arms struggling to hold him back.
"Everyone, stop arguing and start working! Anna can't run today because of her foot, so her and I will try to figure this whole thing out! Just because the sun isn't shining doesn't mean you get to ditch work and go around beating the bloody klunk out of people," Newt screams.
I share a look with Winston, wondering whether or not to let Thomas go. The guys slowly let go of Gally, so we do the same to Thomas. Everyone walks away slowly, but then Gally says, his voice full of anger, as he points at the Maze walls. "You realize that they're coming! They're going to come for all of us!"
Then he stomps away, his face beet red with anger, leaving us all with one question, the question that we've been thinking all day: What the hell?

Whew, long chapter! Hope you guys like it, let me know what you think in the comments :)
Have any of you guys seen the Scorch Trials trailer? UGH. It looks really wicked (see what I did there ;)) and awesome. Looks different from the book, but I'm James Dashner said that he approved of all the decisions, so I'm just gonna trust him, haha.
