I eventually branched off from the group, venturing off to other parts of the blimp. Once I had learned my way around, I began to backtrack. The yelling of a man rang in my ears, getting louder as I grew closer to the corner.
"And stay out!" a chef screamed, throwing the two familiar boys out
The two began to laugh, pieces of meat hanging in their mouths. Gon and Killua spotted me, standing to their feet, pulling the meat from in between their teeth.
"Hey Y/N! How'd the exploring go?" Gon asked, rushing over to me with Killua tracking close behind
"Good; I can tell you guys have been having fun" I joked, giggling a bit as I spoke
I walked in between the two boys as we made our way to the window of the blimp, soon we all stood in front on the bench provided. Our eyes lit up with stars, gazing upon all the lit up buildings that marked their place upon the ground. Their colors lit up the darkness of the night sky as well as complemented the stars that were painted nicely, making it truly a sight to behold.
"Wow, look at all the buildings! It looks like the ground is covered in jewels!" Gon exclaimed, leaning closer to the window
It's so beautiful.." I whispered, my voice soon fading
"Hey Killua," Gon stopped before continuing, "I was just wondering.. Where is your mom and dad?"
A pondering look spread upon his face, soon a small curved smile appeared. "Hmm.. they're alive. Probably"
"What do they do?" I asked, he looked at me
"They're assassins" he spoke nonchalantly, resting his pale face on his hand as he stared out the window "Huh? Both of them?" Gon and I asked simultaneously
"That's your first reaction?" Killua looked at us, beginning to laugh. "You two really are a riot! You're the first people to ever take me seriously!"
He took a seat, Gon and I proceeding to do the same.
"Well, you're telling the truth, right?" Gon asked, my head turning to face the albino boy
"What makes you think that?" Killua questioned Gon, staring at the two of us
"It's just a hunch" he responded truthfully
That's weird... people only like me because they can't ever tell when I'm serious or not." he looks out the window. "I'm from a family of assassins, so they're all assassins. My folks see me as an exceptional prospect... but I can't stand it! Who wants to have their whole life planned out for them? When I told them I wanted to decide my own future, they all snapped! my mother had tears streaming down her face, as she told me I had the potential to be a top assassin." He looks back at us. "Horrible parents, right? It's natural their kid would go bad. We ended up fighting. So I stabbed my mother in the face, my brother in the side and ran away from home." he spoke with a grin on his face stretching ear-to-ear, a sparkle glimmering in his eyes. "I'm sure they're out for blood now, but if they find me I'll send them packing. When I become a hunter, I'll start capturing my family. I'm sure there were some hefty bounties.."
"Oh Y/N, what do your parents do?" Gon asked, Killua chimed in, "Yea, now that you mention it I am kinda curious?"
"Mine? Nothing really. They don't have jobs, my dad just drinks and beats my mom, she fights back though but always ends up losing." I scoffed, laughing at myself, "I left without telling them, they don't care if I'm dead or if I'm alive, they forget that I exist, except for when it benefits them, like stealing cigarettes or drinks, nothing special, just like the rest.."
The two stared at me as I gleaned out the window and rambled, worried expressions coating the two.
"Damn, that must suck, sorry" Killua sympathized
"Yea, I'm sorry Y/N.." Gon muttered, looking down at the seat
"Don't apologize guys, why do you think I took the exam?" I laughed, lightening the mood as they giggled as well
A shiver soon ran down my spine, eyes burning in the back of my head. Gon and Killua acted the same, us all turning our heads in sync, just to spot Chairman Netero approaching us.
"Ah..Netero-san.. Did you see anyone coming from that side?" Gon pointed, causing me to glance in that direction
"No" he replies
"You're pretty fast for an old man" Killua glares at him, Netero staring back at the three of us
"That little trick?" he chuckled, "I barely moved!"
As he joked, Killua's face never morphed, showing that same 'fed up' expression.
"What do you want? You don't have anything until the last phase right?" His eyes locked on the old man, making him sweatdrop
"No need to be so unkind. I grew bored, and was looking for some companions on the way. By the way, I meant to ask the three of you, any thoughts on your first attempt at the Hunter Examination?" the Chairman asked the three of us, attempting to start conversation Uh! It has been really fun!" he eagerly stated, "and there haven't been any written exams which I was dreading!" Gon rambled
"To be honest, I didn't expect it to be so..adventurous. I've had fun nonetheless. I'm anticipating the next phase!" I stated calmly, swinging my feet as we looked at Killua for a response
"I'm disappointed.." Killua said, "I expected the exam to be more difficult. I assume the next phase will be more entertaining?"
"Well.." he started, "I wouldn't know anything about that" Netero-san replied innocently
"Let's go," Killua saying, turning on his heel to leave
"Now wait just a moment." The chairman asks, "Would you care to play a game with me? If you are able to defeat me..I shall let you become hunters!"
The two replied with a 'yes' while I did not.
"I'm okay, thanks though" I said, sliding my hands into my jeans pockets, "I want to participate in the rest of the exam, and go to bed you know? Good luck"
"Alright, bye Y/N! Goodnight!" Gon said, waving as I walked away
"Bye Y/N goodnight" Killua said
I waved back, approaching the shared room with the other two, Kurapika and Leorio. I quietly slid the room door open, seeing them already asleep. The door closed shut, my grip on the cold doorknob, loosening before soon letting go. I made myself comfortable, my eyelids coming to a close. Soon, I let the darkness of sleep engulf me, preparing my body for the triumph of tomorrow, getting closer to getting my license. With that the world slowed, soon fading into the realm of slumber.
