Chapter 1

~Maddie'e Pov~

I grabbed my tray of food that the lunch ladies handed me.

It seriously looked like it was alive. I ate it anyways, because I was starving.

I sat down at my table where my best friends were already sitting down: Luke, Allie, Cameron, and Hayes.

"So I heard that Jackson's having a party tomorrow night. Are you guys going?" Luke asks taking a bite of his chicken sandwich.

"I don't know, I'm not much of a party person" I say shrugging my shoulders.

"Oh come on, I heard that it was going to be fun. I'm going" Hayes replies.

"I'll go" Allie responds.

"And there will be senior guys there" Cam says smirking at Allie and I.

"Well I do enjoy my senior boys" I say smiling at Allie.

Cam laughed and replied "You in?"

"I'm in."

*Back at Maddie's House*

I dropped my backpack on the ground and went into the kitchen. I grabbed a blueberry muffin and saw a note attached to the muffin box.

Hey honey, we'll be in meetings until late again. You can invite a friend over for company, but make sure they go home before 8. Here's $20 for food since we won't be back in time.
Love, Mom and Dad.

My parents are always gone. Whether they're in meetings, or they're having couple dates with their friends. I feel like I don't know them anymore. I don't know if I ever REALLY understood who my parents were. After I was about 5 or 6, they started leaving more often. They haven't given me a chance to get to know them since I was a kid.

I grabbed the $20 bill and my phone. I texted Hayes.

To Haysie Boo 🙈- Hey my parents are going to be gone for a while again. Do you wanna come over? I'll order pizza

I took a bite of muffin, and saw a notification that said Hayes texted back.

Haysie Boo 🙈- Well if there's pizza, I simply HAVE to come over. I'll be over in 5.

I went upstairs to change into comfier clothes. I slipped on my black "PINK" sweats and my plain white sweatshirt that said "NYC" on it. I got it from the time when I went to New York with Hayes and his family while my parents were on a "business trip." I kept my hair down and grabbed my cell phone off of my bed and put it in my pocket.

I heard a knock on the door, so I opened it to see Hayes. He was wearing his gator fuzzy pajamas and a plain black tee. In his hands were a bunch of our favorite movies.

"Okay so I've got Avengers, Hunger Games, Spy Kids, and some chick flicks because I figured you would wanna watch some" he says walking in the door and plopping on the couch.

This is one of the reasons why I love Hayes. He can feel comfortable around me, and we can hang out in our pajamas and not worry about how we look. And also he's one of the few guys that will willingly watch chick flicks with me.

"Very nice choices, Grier. I'm impressed" I said with a British accent silently clapping my hands together.

We spent the rest of the night laughing and talking. We watched a few movies, and I shortly fell asleep on the couch.
