We sat near the small pound. "This is one of my favorite spots to go to. No one knows that I come here and I guess that what makes it more peaceful." I said looking at the water. "So, I'm the first you shared it with?" I turn to see him wearing his famous smirk and I roll my eyes, "Don't think too high of yourself, we needed somewhere private and it came to my mind." "I like it." I hear him say, and I smile, " I like it too." A few moments of just pure silence. He turned to face me and then says, "Victoria isn't a mean girl, well she didn't used to be." I gave him a puzzled look then he explained, "Victoria is my stepsister. Her dad married my mum when I was 10 and I changed my last name to his.Believe it or not, she was the kind, sweet and friendly. But through being bullied for the longest time at school. She started to break." Carter stopped and looked down taking a deep breath. "She never really talked about being bullied but I did see it and she kept telling me she was fine until she wasn't." I looked at carter who was playing with his fingers not wanting to make eye contact. Then he continued, "Then the afternoon of her 15th birthday, when we got a phone call that her dad on his business trip, my stepdad passed away because of a heart attack. That completely broke her." I looked at his hands that were now shaking, "After a month or so, I came back from school and went to see her but I found her soaked in her own blood on the bed.She wanted to take her own life because she just couldn't anymore" He looked up with pain feeling his eyes. "I'm sorry." I said looking into his eyes. "Not your fault" He simply said and then looked at the pound. "After that she was home schooled for a whole semester. Her and I developed a stronger brotherly connection at that time and it continued on till today. However when she came back to school, she was different, she was confident and strong. Then the whole thing with Beth happened and she was the one to point the obvious cheating thatI did not notice and she saw how painful it for me. She was also hurt becauseBeth was the only friend she really had and for her to find out how she lied and hurt me, that hurt her too." "She was there for you more than anyone wasn't she?" He nods with a smile. "Katharine, you need to realize that she means every threat she makes." "But why am I a target to her?" I asked. "She... She seesBeth in you." He rubbed the back of his neck. "As in your ex girlfriend who cheated on you and was her friend that hates to death." He chuckles, "Yup." "Don't you think you should trust your sister's instinct when it comes to me?" I stared into his beautiful eyes trying to find an answer. "I want to, trust me I tried. But there's something about you." He smiles as the colors of the sunset reflected in his eyes and I smile feeling a bit shy. There is something here that I can't identify what it is but it seems powerful
