The train had started to slow down when I returned to the compartment to find the twins already dressed in their robes.
My stomach lurched with nervous as the train came to a stop and the doors opened. I stepped out onto the tiny dark platform, shivering in the cold night air.
I climbed into a horseless carriage with Fred and George and another guy I had never met before. "Oh Sky, this is Lee Jordan he's in the same year as us" said George. Lee outstretched his hand for me to shake, "pleased to meet you" he said as I shook his hand. We chatted about random things until the carriage came to a stop outside the entrance to the castle. The castle truly was magnificent.
Fred, George and Lee climbed out of the carriage Fred waiting to help me out. He gave me his hand which I gladly accepted as I climbed down the steps.
"Miss Flynn?" I heard a woman's voice say, I looked up to were the door had swung open revealing a tall woman with greying hair, she was wearing emerald green robes, her face stern as she looked at me. I nodded and she asked me to follow her. "Professor Dumbledore thought it might be easier if you were to be sorted separate from the first years, if that is alright with you, Miss Flynn?" She asked me with a small smile on her lips. I nodded and said goodbye to the twins before following her off down the corridor.
"Good luck," they said to me before walking off into the great hall.
We walked down the stone corridors and stopped in front of a statue. It was a gargoyle. I looked at the teacher confused.
"Sherbet lemon" she said causing the gargoyle to bring aside as a spiral staircase ascended upwards like an escalator. At the top a gleaming wooden door lay ahead.
The teacher, who I was told was Professor McGonagall, opened the door silently and we entered. the room was very large and circular, pictures of many people where placed on the walls, I think they may have been the past Headmasters and Mistress's who were sat in their frames perched on the stone wall.
An enormous claw-footed desk sat the the middle of the room and a man with long silvery hair and a long beard sat behind it. "Ah, Miss Flynn, how wonderful to meet you, now no time to waste, but the first years will be arriving any moment and I am rather hungery tonight so, please sit here on this stool while I place the sorting hat on your head," he told me with a warm smile.
I sat down and felt the hat drop on my head. I waited, then all of a sudden the hat started talking.
"Hmm," said a small voice in my ear. "Difficult, I see courage and bravery, oh and plenty of talent - better be GRYFFINDOR!" the hat screamed. Dumbledore lifted that hat of my head.
"Well done, Miss Flynn, an excellent house, I too was in Gryffindor. now Professor McGonagall will escourt you to the great hall and help you get a seat at your house table." Said Dumbledore giving me a pat on the back before we exited his very large office.
I entered the great hall, Professor McGongall my head of house, lead me towards a table where Fred and George where sitting.
The great hall was truly beautiful, it was lit by thousands and thousands of candles that were floating in midair over four long tables, where the rest of the students were sitting. These tables were laid with glittering golden plates and goblets. At the top of the Hall was another long table where the teachers sitting. I looked upwards and saw a velvety black ceiling dotted with stars. It was hard to believe that there was a ceiling there at all, and that the Great Hall didn't open to the heavens.
I sat down next to the twins. "Yes, your Gryffindor too". Said George giving me a pat on the back, while Fred just gave me a big smile.
The first years were all sorted into their houses. Ron, Fred and Georges youngest brother also being sorted into Gryffindor. But when the name Harry Potter was mentioned the whole hall broke out in whispers like hissing fires.
