“Okay, we wait until he’s asleep…” Jim explains as Strickler falls asleep at his desk.

“I use my shadow Staff to get us in.” Claire adds, opening a portal into Strickler’s office.

“And I ever so gently remove the ring from his finger.” Jim finishes, reaching out to remove the ring from Strickler’s finger.

“Hold up there, Mr. Storyteller. Do changelings even sleep?” Toby asks.

Strickler suddenly snaps awake, changing into his troll form and roaring at us.

“Good point Tobes. New plan!” Jim states, the previous actions rewinding to the beginning.

“We spike his coffee with extra strength cold medicine.”

Strickler gently takes a sip of his coffee, passing out from the medicine.

“I use the shadow staff.” Claire adds.

“And I bring my war hammer in case that doesn’t knock him out.” Toby continues.

“And I ever so gently…”

“Wait!” I exclaim. “What if he’s not alone? His office was guarded last time, remember?”

A goblin suddenly laughs from on top of the bookcase, aiming a crossbow at us and shooting.

“Okay, fine!” Jim shouts irritably, the scene rewinding once more. “We spike the coffee!”

“Shadow staff.” Claire sighs.

“I use my War hammer to take out his goons.” Toby swings his hammer at the goblin, knocking him down.

“Then I ever so gently remove the ring.” Jim finishes, grabbing the ring on Strickler’s finger.

He tugs on it a few times, but it doesn’t budge.

“What if it doesn’t come off?” Toby asks.

“Why wouldn’t it come off?” I ask.

“I dunno. Maybe it’s glued on, or he added a few pounds.” Toby shrugs.

“Why would it be glued on, you dingus?” Claire asks.

“You said we had to be ready for every precaution!” Toby explains as we all try to help remove the ring.

“He’s waking up!” Claire exclaims worriedly.

“How is he waking up?! This isn’t even happening!” Jim asks.

“Cut off his hand!” Claire suggests. “What?!” Jim shouts.

“Use your sword! Hurry! Do it!”

“No! I’m not gonna cut…”

“Do it! Do it! Before it’s too late!”

Jim quickly summons his sword, looking down at Strickler.

He shouts loudly, swinging his sword down.

“Stop! Stop! Stop!” I shout, causing all of us to snap back into reality.

“If you chop his hand off, you chop your mom’s hand off too, remember?” I ask, leaning against Claire’s windowsill, stealing a piece of popcorn from the bowl on Toby’s stomach.

“Oh, I forgot. Angor Rot’s binding spell.” Jim sighs. “We’re not ready. There’s too much risk.”

“But Angor Rot said if you don’t get the ring, he’s coming back for you.” Claire says.
