It was August 29th, just two days before the new school year started and it would be your fourth year teaching there as the charms professor ever since Professor Flitwick went into retirement. Everyone at Hogwarts was always so nice. Well, at least almost everyone. Severus Snape. He was your bestfriend ever since you became a professor, and he wasn't exactly the nicest person ever. Students even hated him for his cold ways, but unlike them, you liked Severus for who he was. You didn't care what others said about him, because when the two of you were together it felt like everything had disappeared and time had stopped. The two of you knew almost everything about each other and would talk to each other every night at dinner about how your day went. He would make sarcastic comments all the time but it didn't matter to you because you were the same.
It was almost time for supper and you sighed as you plopped down on the couch realizing what time it was already. You were too tired the past few weeks so you had no time to pack. But now you were rushing around your home frantically packing and thats when you heard four hard knocks on the door. You recognized those knocks, its was Severus's. Severus came over almost every week and just hung out. Even if it was to just drink your tea and sit by your fireplace with a book in hand. He just secretly liked your company even if you guys didn't talk. As you walked over to open the door to let him in, you tried your best to hide the fact that you've been rushing to pack. "Hi! I apologize for the mess, please escuse it. I was just cleaning and tidying up the place." You opened the door for him while replying anxiously worried he would get mad at you for your last-minute packing. "You seem....nervous.. Why?" His dark eyes scared you sometimes making you feel more nervous as you tried to hide the fact that you were sweating from rushing around.
He walked towards the living room closing the front door behind him while looking around the room. "Are you sure you were cleaning? Or last-minute packing considering your trunk is open with books, quills, parchment paper, and planned lessons lying around it." His voice was so monotone it made shivers run down your spine.
As you followed behind him and stopped by a bookcase, you looked down to the floor and replied back to his question. "So maybe I am packing last minute but I wasn't feeling well the past few weeks so I couldn't really do anything. And before you say anything yes I know I should've still tried to get things together but I just couldn't. I'm sorry. Please don't get mad." You were still looking at the ground fidgeting with your fingers, too scared to look up and see the disappointment in his face. But before you knew it, you saw him walk up to you and as he did, he grabbed your hands to stop your fidgeting with them. Because of that, you looked up at him making eye contact, it was so intense you couldn't break away. "I'll help you pack, what have you gotten packed so far?" At his words you were confused, confused at why he didn't yell at you for being lazy so you questioned it. "You're...you're not mad?" You asked with a confused look on your face.
He clenched his jaw, then opened his mouth to answer your question "Yes. Yes I am but rather than yelling at you for it at the moment, I need to help you get your things together with the limited time we have. Now hurry up we only have two days left until the first term starts but as professors we must get there a day early to set our classrooms up. So that leaves us with the rest of today and tomorrow. And also, you are okay now right?" He answered slowly. You nodded your head slowly. That was the first you have ever seen Severus not yell at you when he had the chance to. You were still so confused but decided to just continue packing.
While packing you couldn't help but wonder why Severus was acting different. You wanted to ask him, but the two of you were to busy catching up and setting things into your trunk and bags that it slipped your mind as you got carried away talking to your favorite person. Just then your stomach started to rumble. That had made Severus chuckle slightly. "Someone is a little hungry. Why don't you finish up here and I'll fix something up for supper." You nodded happily. He was going to cook, you loved his cooking. He always managed to make everything so perfectly seasoned and flavorful. "Don't burn down my kitchen while your at it." You smirked at your comment towards him and he simply rolled his eyes and walked away making you laugh.
After awhile of putting the rest of the items into your trunk, you followed the amazing smell of food into the kitchen where you found Severus has finished preparing dinner. "Oh gosh it smells so good, what did you make? And you didn't burn my kitchen down I see, thanks." You sat down since he already had put everything on the table. "Did you finish packing?" His voice was still monotone but you could tell he had calmed down and wasn't as mad as before. "Oh yeah I did, thanks for helping. You really didn't have to." You felt relieved that you had finally finished packing and now the two of you could just talk while eating dinner like the bestfriends you are. "It's fine, honestly you probably wouldn't have finished if it weren't for me" He replied with a smirk. You rolled your eyes and chuckled. It had been awhile since the two of you sat down and just talked like this since he didn't come over last week. You found that strange since he was always over at your house more than his own but you thought nothing of it, but still wanted to ask. "What happened last week? You didn't come over. I missed you, it was silent and peaceful without you but what happened?" You couldn't tell if he wanted to answer that or not so you just went back to eating your food. It's been minutes since you asked him that and since then it was just quiet and awkward with the silence.
"I had a meeting. With Dumbledore. So I was at Hogwarts half of the week. Sorry I didn't come over or write to tell you." He clenched his jaw because that wasn't all that happened. It was true but something else happened during the meeting that he didn't quite feel ready to tell just yet. "It's ok, how did it go?" That's when you saw him shift in his seat a little. From that you could tell that he didn't feel comfortable sharing so you tried to change the subject. "So, are you ready for the new school year? Another year with the "Intolerable Harry Potter". I honestly don't think he's that bad. Maybe sometimes when he messes around but other than that he does his work most of the time. And on top of that he is a very nice and charming kid." You shrugged your shoulders sarcastically with a smirk on your face thinking that Severus was being dramatic about the student. "You think the kid is charming? He is just like his father, always playing pranks unaware of other students around and strutting about the castle like he owns the damn place." Saying those words at a faster pace than how he usually talked and he sneered at the end of it. It was quite obvious Severus didn't like the Potters at all.
After the two of you finished your meal and cleaned up, you both went back to the living room to have a drink and clean up a little. You then noticed that Severus was tired. He yawned and was constantly rubbing his eyes. "You should go to sleep, you've had a long day helping me out which I'm entirely thankful for. Your bedroom is ready for you already." You told him that as nice as possible that way he wouldn't have any choice but to listen to you because of how kind you were being. And because he was always over, sometimes he would spend the night in the guest bedroom and so you decided to just give him his own room in your house so he always has a place to stay away from his home. But honestly at this point the two of you practically lived together. Even if you weren't together there would always being exchanging letters even if you guys saw one another often. "I think your right, I'll head to bed know. But you should too, look at you. You look worn out and exhausted. Go to sleep and we'll continue everything tomorrow morning, or if you want I'll use magic right now to clean it up. Than we can get to Hogwarts another day early if you'd like." Honestly you entirely forgot about cleaning with magic. With one swish everything could have been done hours ago. "I think that's best, if you don't mind doing that for me I'm going to go wash up." And with a flick of his wand the room was now clean and the both of you went your own ways to get ready for bed.
