"We're juniors!" Whitney cheers.

"It's the end of the day. Why are you yelling that now?"

"So everyone will know not to mess with us. We rule the school."

"I believe the seniors rule."

"But you're varsity captain of the baseball team."

"I haven't even tried out yet."

"There is no better player let alone pitcher in school."

"Thanks, Whitney. But a senior baseball player may be captain."

"You can be captain without being the best player?"

"Yes." His phone rings. "Plus the captain of the football team rules the school."

Whitney looks over his shoulders.

"Oh. The boyfriend would know."

Tim puts his finger to his mouth and answers.

"Hey Tim."

"Hi, babe."

"How was your first day?" Mitch asks.

"It was alright. I'm dealing with Whitney's first day back high."

He laughs.

"How was your first day?" Tim asks.

"It was good. Get this, coach told me I'll make the team for sure."

"That's awesome, Mit. I'm proud of you."

"I was wondering if...."

"If?" Tim asks.

"Uh..."

Whitney looks at him, impatient.

"Mit."

"If you'll come to the homecoming dance with me?"

Tim smiles.

"Of course I'll go to homecoming with you."

Whitney starts jumping up and down.

"Cool. Talk to you later?"

"Yep."

"Okay. Bye."

"Bye." Tim says, hanging up.

"He asked you to homecoming."

"He asked me to homecoming."

Tim and Whitney spend weeks finding the right outfit. Mitch had simply picked out a black jacket and slacks. So they had plenty to work with. They were out to Mitch's school but they wanted to keep it low profile.

"I wish I could see you two off to the dance."

"We'd never leave." Tim says handing his debit card over.

"Your blue shirt will go perfect with his eyes." Whitney says ignoring him.

"Mom!"

"Yes, baby." Taylor calls back.

"Come to the front room."

She walks in.

"What's going on?"

"Mike Adams from Ohio State was at my game. He says he'll watch me next year. But I'm pretty much set for a scholarship."

"Well, you don't need a scholarship."
