"May I come in?" Collei asked, knocking on Tighnari’s door.
"Go ahead!" Tighnari said.
"Hey, I was going to make some tea and wondered if you wanted some, too," she said.
"A warm cup of tea would be nice," he said.
"Great! I'll get it right away."
"Collei," Tighnari said, stopping her just before she left.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you...for everything," he said.
"Well, of course!" She smiled and hopped away.
She poured tea for two and was carrying Tighnari’s cup when there was an alarming knock on the door. She recognized instantly that it wasn't Cyno’s. "Coming," she said and went over. Without spilling the tea in one hand, she grabbed the door knob with the other.
"We meet again, collei," he spoke. She could barely see his eyes through the mask but she could imagine the wicked look that could go with his grin.
She dropped the cup to the floor but didn't flinch when it crash shattered it into pieces. She was frozen, never thinking she'd have to see Dottore again.
"Long time no see. Now, won't you let me in?" He asked, laying a hand on her shoulder.
She wanted to scream at him for touching her. To beat him to the ground for everything that he'd done to her, but she couldn't move. A pool of tears gathered in her eyes. Her voice shook as she tried to speak.
"Master Tighnari," she thought. Her heart dropped. She had to warn him. No. Maybe Dottore thinks it's just her here. The painful memories were washed down as she remembered that Cyno had intrusted her with his family. She was in charge now. Everyone relied on her.
"Oh, don't worry. I'm not here to hurt you. As long you stay out of my way, that is," Dottore said. He removed his hand and walked right past her.
"No!" She shouted, finally finding her voice. She clenched her small hand around Dottore's wrist.
He shoved her hand away and swung a slap at her face, launching her into the floor. "I thought I told you to stay away."
He slowly turned to face and take more steps towards her.Her lips whimpered. She raised her arm in fear, feeling nothing but weakness. Failure.
Bang.
Before Dottore could make another move, he was struck in the head by Tighnari and a pan in his hand.
"Master, run!" Collei begged.
"Collei, get behind me. Now," Tighnari demanded.
She bounced to her feet and stood in front of him. Dottore was already standing. She wondered what the hell he was made out of.
"Collei," Tighnari said.
"Master, just go!"
"Move out of the way, you useless little girl," Dottore said.
He choked her, lifted her and threw her aside. She dropped lifelessly to the floor after hitting the corner of the table. Blood spilled from under her.
"Collei!" Tighnari raised his pan again.
He striked at the monster but with vain. Dottore caught his wrist and twisted Tighnari’s arm behind his back until it cracked. He cried out in agony. His wails blended into Dottore's laugh of sheer joy.
He bad feeling in Cyno’s gut grew the closer he got to their house. Alhaitham and Kaveh decided to come woth him to check everything. He instantly regreted having left. What if something bad happened to them? He laughed at himself for being so silly. He knew their were safe at home and that Collei is a strong girl and wouldn't let anything happen to them.
"Cyno!" A kid said, stopping them. He recognized him as one of the younger Forest Rangers.
"Sorry, we're in a hurry," Cyno said.
"Is everything alright? We heard screaming coming from your house," fhe Ranger said.
"What?" Kaveh said, "when?"
Not waiting to hear the answer, Cyno dashed. The house finally came into view and Cyno could see that the door was left open. Did he forget to close it? It can't be. His heart sunk in his chest. He sprinted, not even stopping for a breath.
Broken glass painted the doorway. A trial of blood led him to where Collei was laying unconscious.
"Collei!" He said and collected her in his arms. She was bleeding from her head and her face was red. "Collei, what happened here?"
It was no use. He carefully placed her down and barged into every room in the house. "Nari! Nari! Where are you?"
He rushed back to Collei and wrapped her head with the longest garment he could find.
"Cyno? Is everything alright?" Kaveh said, stepping inside, Alhaitham not far behind him. He gasped at the sight.
"Where is Tighnari?" Alhaitham asked.
"They took him," Cyno sobbed. "So much happened and I wasn't here to protect them."
"Hey, hey– stop that!" Kaveh said. "We have to think of our next steps. They can't be too far."
"Kaveh is right," Alhaitham said, "Let's split up and ask around. The Forest Rangers can help us cover larger ground and we'll find them in no time."
"That's right, and I'll stay here with Collei," Kaveh said.
Cyno nodded, grateful to have them by his side in this hard time. He left with Alhaitham to find help. Kaveh sat beside Collei, holding her hand in his. "It's okay. You're going to be alright," he told her even though she couldn't hear him.
