Smith
Ring!

I looked at the caller id, ugh! Not again!

I muted the phone and let it ring.
Returning back to signing some official papers and documents.

"Hello, happy to see me?" My head snapped in the direction the voice came from. Have I finally started hallucinating as well?

He walked inside the office like he owned the place and stood in front of me. For some reason he looked aggravated.

Cough! Cough!

"Mr. Williams." I nodded in acknowledgement.

"What are you doing here, at this hour?" I composed myself and asked the question whose answer I knew already.

"Good question. But why don't you ask it to yourself?" He glared at me. Umm does 2 weeks a really long time to ignore someone's calls and messages?

Sure isn't, right?

"I have been busy." I answered in my defence.

His eyes narrowed into slits, "Busy enough not to attend a business meeting?"

Now answer it. Common.

"Well about that I had other very important meeting." I lied smoothly. Still this guilt crept up in me.

There is no need for feeling guilty. That was necessary for my sanity!

He stepped dangerously close to me. You are feeling nothing! You are calm. No quickening of heartbeat, most definitely not!

"Lie! What is the truth Ms. Smith?" I shot him an indifferent look, staying quiet. If he think he can make me give in so easily then he need to think again.

"I said, the truth." He said stepping more closer, suddenly my back hit the wall.

"You can neither threaten nor scare me." I narrowed my eyes at him and responded in my usual cold voice.

He sighed, "I am not." His words were nothing more than a whisper. He pressed his forehead against mine.

"Tell me." My eyes almost softened on hearing him. His voice was so light so...raw.

His eyes were closed, after a minute I thought of opening my mouth, but before I could his eyes snapped open and he retreated his head back from mine.

"I get this now! You didn't want to see or hear from me because you hold me responsible for losing those papers isn't it?" My eyes slightly widened on hearing him.

What!?

I was going to oppose him but he didn't let me speak.

"Ofcourse that must be! Afterall it was me who was shot in the leg and because of whom you were held back." He tried his best to suppress the pain and guilt in his voice.

Shit!

He again started speaking rubbish, my jaw clenched.
"That's enough!" My arctic voice boomed in the office cabin.

He looked at me and gulped sensing the look my eyes carried.

I took hold of his collar and pushed him against the wall.
"That's enough of your rubbish." My voice clearer than ever.

"Listen. And listen carefully, I did not ignore you because I blame you for what happened." I glared at him.

Like seriously!? He thinks that I hate him and blame him for what happened! When I...

He looked me in the eyes. His midnight ones searching for any lies in my stormy eyes.

When he was assured that I wasn't lying, he asked,
"Then why?"
