The striking beauty that proclaimed herself to be a goddess is none other than Haruhi Suzumiya. The person who's utterly confused at her sudden outburst is me, Kyon. Right here, is the moment my life completely changed. Whether it was for the better, well, I couldn't say. All I knew was that a beautiful girl stood up and proclaimed something a pretty frightening. She's a goddess who will rule over the human race. Things like aliens, time travelers, and espers, will never be able to stop her. If we were to survive, we must worship her.
She must have been joking. No one would introduce themselves in such a dramatic and threatening way. They certainly wouldn't order others to kneel before them. Surely, she's not serious. This person must have been completely joking. She was not... Haruhi Suzumiya was always this serious. Hindsight completely proves it.
I wish this were all a coincidence...
She became sane again after declaring a statement like that to the whole class, but it was just the calm before the storm here... In any case, I'll have to put up with this girl for the next three years of my life.
Many of us came from at one of the four junior high schools in the city. In Haruhi's case, she graduated from East Junior High. If she graduated from that school, then there should've been others who graduated with her. Maybe she had a few friends back there who enrolled into this school and knew what the hell she was talking about. Turned out that no one knew... Everyone was as confused as I was. Even though they came from the same school, they never really knew who Haruhi was. No one was willing to really speak with her, so I decided to be the first to do it.
Years worth of calamity began to enter my life, and I was the one who gave the invitation!

Haruhi is a silent person. She won't make any noise or bother anyone she doesn't care about. She's not interested in those she finds to be unsuitable or uninteresting. If I hadn't talked to her, I wouldn't have piqued her interest. Regrettably, I chose to go against my common sense and speak with the self-proclaimed "goddess".
