I was in the living room, searching for a movie to watch when Dad got a phone call. He left it on the table, so I peered over at the caller ID, and it was Alex. He grabbed it and headed to the front door.

"Hello?" He answered.

"A what?"

"No, no, it's fine. I'd be too busy to do that anyway." He told her as he threw on his jacket.

"Yeah, I'm heading out for a night shift."

"Twenty hours, but thank God it's Friday. I can leave Del alone without having to worry about school."

"Yeah, eight pm to four pm."

"Well, hockey isn't cheap. You should know that you're a coach, after all."

"Alright, take care. Bye."

He hung up and entered the living room.

"What's going on?" I asked. "Oh, nothing. Just hockey parent stuff." "Well, I'm a hockey kid, so tell me." "It's nothing you need to be concerned about." He told me. He kissed the top of my head and smiled. "Alright, bye, Del. Be safe. Don't open the door for anybody, don't have anybody over, no parties, no leaving to go to parties–" "You really think I'm friends with people who throw or are even invited to parties?" I asked. "Just saying." "Bye, dad." "Bye, Del."

He unlocked the front door and left. I would normally break those rules and head over to Nick or Evan's for a while, but they're having a sleepover at Nick's with Koob. I thought about going to bother Alex, but I knew she needed that alone time. She's been sort of stressed with being a coach recently.

I heard someone knock at the door and assumed it was Dad coming back to retrieve something, but why would he knock? I quietly went over to the window and opened the curtain just enough to see who was on the other side of the door.

I was relieved when I saw it was Logan. I unlocked the door and opened it. "Hey, stranger." I said.

"Uh, hey, Lilah." He responded. "Do you wanna hang out or something? You know, if it's cool with your dad." "My dad's at work right now, so yeah, it's cool. Wanna come in?" "Yeah, sure." I moved to the side, and he entered.

"I was gonna watch a movie, but couldn't find anything. You can pick if you want." I told him as I closed the door and locked it. "Okay, cool." "Can I get you something to drink or eat?" "Some water wouldn't hurt." "You got it. Living room is that way." I pointed to the right. "Alright, thanks." He said.

As I entered the kitchen, I got dizzy and leaned against the counter. I skipped breakfast, traded my lunch, and ate some of my dinner. I knew I needed a decent meal and not a snack, but food was food. I got Logan a water and myself a lemonade. I also grabbed chips and candy from the pantry.

I went back into the living room and sat the stuff on the table, and handed Logan his water as he was sitting on the couch. "Oh, thanks. Uh, are you okay, Delilah?" "Yeah, why?" "Because you sorta look like you might pass out." "No, no, I'm fine." "Have you eaten today?" "Why would you care?" "Well, you traded your lunch for Nick's math notes and told Lauren you skipped breakfast."

I got agitated with him but tried to keep it together. "I'm alright, okay?" I said. "Let me make you something." He said, standing up. "I make some mean pancakes, and I think you not eating is responsible for your aggressive behavior." He tried to move past me to the kitchen, but I stood in his way.

"I'm fine, rookie. I don't need to eat." "Yeah, and we don't need air to breath." He replied. "Just sit back down and press play on the movie." "Delilah, have you had a real meal today?" "Could you just let that go, Logan? It's none of your business what I do with my life. I don't badger you about your habits."
