EVANGELINA'S POV

"Did you go?" I asked.

"Yes."

"And?" Julieta questioned, eager to know as Pepa and I.

"I don't think I can get past this."

Pepa nodded her head. "That's understandable-"

"I'm not done. I don't think I can get past this. But, I think I'll give it a try."

"Seriously-ACK!" Julieta elbowed Pepa. "We will support you."

Bruno and I were left alone while the sisters retired to their rooms.

Casita was quiet. The last time we were alone like this was when I was teaching him how to be a gentleman. Only a few days have passed since then. Crazy, isn't it?

I shot a quick glance towards Bruno. Then, without noticing, the look became a full-on stare.

I still couldn't believe Marí lied to me. I thought I knew her. But I guess not.

"Angry or sad?"

"Huh?" Blinking my eyes a few times, coming out of my thoughts.

"One or the other is being expressed on your face and body language." He pointed at my hand fiddling with my bracelet.

"Uh... both, I guess?" Continuing to fiddle.

He stepped closer. "Both?"

"Is it related to my situation or something else? Nobody is badgering you because of me, right?"

"No-"

He stepped even closer. "Because if somebody is-"

"I've just been concerned about you and angry at María."

"Do you think I'm making a mistake then?"

I looked down, only to be met with Bruno's chest. My eyes widened. Our bodies were close, as in almost-touching close. Turning my head to the side instead. "What I think doesn't matter. It's your relationship. I'm just the supporter."

"I have a question for you."

"O-Okay." Still looking away.

"Imagine you didn't know me, would you have believed any of the rumors?"

"I mostly prefer to believe with my eyes. And from what I've observed, every rumor that was ever said about you is nothing but a lie."

"... Evangelina." He softly whispered.

I gathered the courage to make it back to his eyes.

"Want me to walk you home?" He teased.

It seemed like he was going to say something else or maybe it was my imagination.

He cleared his throat, now looking away. "I'm not asking because I want to. It's just... safer this way."

I chuckled. "I can get home by myself, thank you. Goodnight."

"Night, little stalker." He smiled.

I rolled my eyes but couldn't hide my smirk.

BRUNO'S POV

Until she was out the door, I finally released my breath. My heart was actually beating a mile a minute.

"Every rumor that was ever said about you is nothing but a lie."

The person who said that exact sentence in my dream... was her.

I was conscious of our closeness when she glanced down. I didn't know why, but I, for some weird reason, made no effort to pull back.
