A/N: There are a few songs I recommend you listen to while reading this chapter.
CASITA
The wedding reception is in full swing, with guests mingling and congratulating Bruno and Eva. However, they keep a polite distance from each other. They believe that by refraining from unwanted intimacy or physical touch, they are respecting one other's boundaries.
"Congratulations, Bruno and Evangelina!" One guest said.
"Best wishes to the newlyweds!" Mariano said.
"Would the new Mr. and Mrs. Madrigal please step onto the dance floor for the first dance as a married couple." Alma announces.
Bruno and Eva shake their heads but they are being pushed by Javier and Mirabel. Eva gives Javier a death glare as if saying "You bitch".
Eva and Bruno stand in the center of the dance floor. The soft glow of candlelight surrounds them. The band plays a familiar song, one that holds a memory for both Eva and Bruno.
A/N: Cue Blessing the Broken Road by Selah ft. Melodie Crittenden
Eva froze for a moment as the music fills the air. "That song..." she whispers.
Bruno's expression also changes, his eyes reflecting a mix of nostalgia and sentiment.
They hesitantly hold each other. All eyes are on them.
As they sway together in each other's arms, there is a genuine connection between them, yet there is also a glimmer of longing and resistance in their eyes.
As the song continues, Eva and Bruno's memories come flooding back.
They both remember at Eva's 21st birthday was when they first heard this, dancing to this very song under the starlit sky away from prying eyes. In their separate worlds, they recall the happiness and innocence of that moment.
The song actually holds a deeper meaning for Bruno. Triggering a fragment of a forgotten memory within him.
As the song plays on, the two exchange a fleeting, bittersweet glance, each carrying the weight of their unspoken feelings.
The music still plays and as the lyrics, "Others who broke my heart, they were like Northern stars. Pointing me on my way into your loving arms. This much I know is true" passes, the Bride and Groom hold onto each other even more closely.
Evangelina stands by the drink table, talking with Ramiro and Javier. "I know we don't live that far but I'm gonna miss not seeing your stupid faces as often."
Javier arches an eyebrow. "Even me?"
Eva gives a genuine smile. "Even you."
"And here I thought you'd be the one in our family who grows old and single."
Her smile drops. "I take it back."
Ramiro chuckles.
"I feel so bad for Evangelina, she doesn't deserve to be stuck with.. him." some random guy said.
The trio snaps their heads.
"I heard that he's only with Evangelina to get back at her friend for starting that rumor about him." another guy says.
Eva turns to the two guys talking about her and Bruno. As she is about to open her mouth, Ivan and Gloria appear before the two punks.
"Don't talk our Tía and Tío like that!" Ivan defends.
