Chapter 24
Selah went to her mothers private spring she had a bamboo house built around it to give her privacy and so she could load it with private bath items. She sat in the warm spring she looked to her left smiling there was a salt mud pit for her to soak in. No one could have done that except Dawoo. Several robes and towels hang on hooks Selah soaked inhaling as she stepped in exhaling as she settled in the hot spring that was the perfect temperature. She watched as dry blood left her body she dunked her head under horns and all when she rose Abalones men grabbed her by the horns out the water.
They tossed a robe on her knocking her out the men scurried out the quiet village back Dawoo's childhood palace. Selah woke a few hours later on the day of the the great battle between Dawoo and Abalone. She sat up Abalone had a healer look at her angry they hit her hard. The healers handed her a cup of broth please sip slow my Queen. She sipped slow saying nothing to Abalone who looked on worried. The healer fluffed her pillows and covered her with a blanket. He tucked her in sliding a note under her leg. Selah felt the paper but said nothing and gave no indication it was there she continued to sip as if everything were fine. The healer left giving her an eye of be careful. Abalone why am I here? Why do you have guards at the door and on the bridge? Why is the bridge raised and we are on a moat? Selah spoke to him in the ancient Royal Banshee language only taught to royals. He was shocked she recalled the language as he never heard her use it. Selah used it so the servants had no idea what she was saying.
I have to protect you Selah. From whom Abalone? Yourself you are still grieving how can you know you love a strange man whom you've recently met over a man you've known a lifetime? Were a child with? Went to lessons with? Humm? How dare you assume grief has clouded my judgement or what I feel for another. Abalone I am not a baby banshee I am 28 circling sun's of age and that is by the count of all three sun's who are you to decide for the Queen of banshees? A man Decide for decide for a royal? I am also a royal Selah the horns once graced these halls. Abalone pointed to the walls which held the paintings of all the men who wore the horns before her including Dawoo. When she saw his portrait wearing the horns so proudly she smiled angering Abalone.
Why are you smiling at that traitor as soon as my father passes I will paint over his portrait as you see he is the last male to adorn the horns gifting them to women making us men lower then you on this planet when we were once higher. In my eyes Dawoo is a traitor of his kind and his kind is not the God's but banshee men a part of him he has long forgotten.
That is still not answering why you are holding me captive. Selah began to rub her eyes causing abalone to smile. Sleepy Selah? What did you do? Abalone caught her when she went to stand lay down my love soon you will find out why you are here.
Abalone pulled the covers over Selah happy the guard slipped her a sleep aid when the chef turned his head. Sleep well my love I shall return shortly.
