part 17 : I'll Be Your Safe Place
The house looked so empty.
Thanks to Taehyung, Jungkook didn't have to stay at school for long. He had brought him home the very instant they exited the music room.
Last rituals, funeral, paper records and handful of guests that were present in the ceremony; everything was handled by Taehyung.
Jungkook - he was just seated motionless in one place. Staring at his mother's picture. Hearing few of the close ones wailing, beating their chests but it did nothing to him.
He perceived everything from, "Come to us if you need help" to "Oh you poor soul!"
It did nothing, really.
Jungkook watched Taehyung bid the last of guests and probably paying warm regards on his behalf as well.
Taehyung. The boy he ditched came to his aid when his own grandparents turned their back even by the news of their deceased daughter. Taehyung truly was an angel in disguise.
"Kook, you should get changed." Taehyung ran his fingers through his hair. "They were the last ones to leave." Again, heaving a sigh, he sat down next to the boy.
He must be tired.
"Mm."
That was all Jungkook could reckon out of himself.
"They kept insisting that you reach out to them and even helped with the dea- um, certificates." An awkward smile played on Taehyung's lips, getting no response for a good while, looking down at picture as well. Pretty white flower garlands hanging around the frame.
"Taehyung?"
Almost immediately Taehyung answered him. Offering him a glass water if he needed it or anything at all. "You know . . ." Taehyung's breath almost hitched when he heard his voice, strained but at least he was hearing it.
There an unspoken agreement between them, however-
"I don't want you to pretend like everything is okay 'cause it isn't." Taehyung wasn't exactly sure if he was talking about themselves or the situation in all. "I want to you to slap some reality on my face. Truth to be told, I don't trust anyone else with that."
Jungkook said that and brought his knees closer to his chest. "I'm sorry." Taehyung said thinking he was being sensitive. He didn't know Jungkook was feeling that way.
"Nuh uh," Jungkook shook his head. Laying his head on his knees, looking at Taehyung in a familar fashion, with a hint of something foreign.
Gratefulness, was it?
"I don't want you to be sorry." Jungkook shook defeatedly, upon seeing Taehyung with the look he hated the most. "Listen," he breathed out, "Taehyung, you're an amazing guy." Hanging his head down, he continued. "My mum would've said that too. But . . . I don't want you to pity me."
