CHAPTER 12

“Have you taken your pills?” Richard asked. Maya has just finished eating despite the fact that she been eating her dinner for almost an hour. The two seemed to be long lost friends for they couldn’t stop chatting with each other. Richard, as before, was always teasing Maya.

“Oo ininom ko na kanina.” She said then something crossed her mind. “Teka, paano mo nalaman na may iniinom akong gamot?” she asked.

“Ha? Ehh di ba may sakit ka? So I just assumed –“

“Hindi eh.” She cut him off. “Kasi meron namang di kailangan ng gamot. Saka ikaw pa ‘tong nagsasabi na bawal akong ma-stress.”

Richard sighed. He knows that he needs to be honest with Maya. Might as well start now. “Fine, fine. I was with you during your check up.”

“Oh?”

“Yes. I was with you most of the time after our argument.”

“Ha? Eh paano? Hindi naman kita nakita ah.”
“It’s because I don’t want you to see me back then.”

“Bakit?” she continued to wonder.

Because I promised myself that I would only make myself visible when I finally know my feelings for you ”Wala lang. I just don’t want you to.” What happened to being honest, Richard?

Maya suddenly felt nervous. Kung may ganung gift si Richard edi .. “Richard. Nung .. nung .. ka-kasama ba kita kanina bago ako umuwi dito?” Naku, Maya! Baka nakita na niya yung totoong siya.

“Uhm. No. Saan ka ba galing? Ang tagal ko kayang naghihintay dito.”

Maya was finally able to let go of the air she’s been holding on. Akala ko naman. So close, Maya. “Ahh, ano. Galing akong uh, LAS. Nag-overtime ako eh.” She lied.

“Ahh. That explains it.” He seemed convinced.

“Eh ikaw, saan ka ba galing?”

“I was at the park since yesterday.”

“Sa park?” she chuckled. “Ano namang ginawa mo dun?”

Richard paused for a while as if searching for the right words to say. “Nag-isip.”

Maya was bewildered. “Haaa? Nag-isip ng ano?”

Kung alam mo lang, Maya. “Uhmm, about my mission.”

Maya bit her lower lip. Baka sina Sir Robert yung misyon niya. “May idea ka na ba kung ano yung misyon mo?”

The angel paused for a bit. “Wala pa eh. But I remembered an important event in my mortal life.”

Maya felt her heart beat go fast. “A-anong event?”

Richard looked away from  her, as if the next words that he’s going to let go is so painful to him. “My death.”

The mortal kept silent, waiting for Richard to continue what he said. This is the last confirmation, Maya. Kung tumugma yung aksidente ni Richard Lim sa kanya, ibig sabihin, siya talaga ‘yun. And it’s not your death, Richard. You’re still alive.

“O? Natulala ka dyan?” Richard teased when he saw Maya just staring at him.

“Naman o! Iniintay ko yung kwento eh!” she tensely replied.
