CHAPTER 35

It was the perfect Saturday morning. The sun is shining bright yet it seemed that it’s too lazy to give its full warmth. It was supposed to be a great day for Maya, but no. Maya seemed to experience the exact opposite of it. Last Friday night was like hell to her. For the last time, Maya looked around her condo unit to find Richard’s necklace. And while looking for it, she made a huge mess inside her unit making her have an unintended general cleaning. Instead of admiring blessed Saturday morning, Maya was still asleep.

In the middle of her deep sleep, Maya heard her door bell ringing around her place. It’s like the person ringing it is not contented that she pressed it again and again along with knockings on her door. Maya couldn’t take the noise anymore and decided to get up from her bed. She opened the door without even peeking at the peep hole to know who it was. Liza’s worried face welcomed her.

“O Maya? Are you okay? Are you sick?” Liza asked.

“Ayos lang ako, Liza.” Maya answered as she rubbed her eyes, then she yawned. “May kailangan ka ba?”

Liza’s jaw dropped at Maya’s question. “Maya, seryoso ka?” then she stepped inside, not waiting for Maya to let her in. “Kakagising mo lang?”

Maya crossed her brows and nodded. “Oo, ano namang masama dun?”

Liza shrieked and grabbed Maya by her shoulders and shook her. “Mayaaa! Do you even know what today is?”

“Oo naman!” Maya said, her brows still crossed. “Sabado ngayon di ba? Walang pasok.”

“Yes!” Liza exclaimed. “Walang pasok. And do you know why? Do you know what will happen later at six in the evening?”

“Ha? Ano bang sinasabi –“ Maya stopped abruptly. Shit. “Liza! Mamaya na yung anniversary!” she exclaimed.

“Oo, and I came here para ayusan ka. And mamaya, dadating na si Sir Richard para kaunin ka.” Then she pulled Maya and pushed her toward her bathroom. “Kaya Maya bilisan mong maligo, dali na. Gamitin mo na yung blower mo para matuyo agad ang buhok mo.” Liza successfully pushed Maya inside her bathroom and closed its door. “Maya, bilisan mo ha? Makikielam na ko sa kitchen mo, ipagluluto na kita, dalian mo!”

Maya just leaned against her bathroom door and buried her face on her hands as she mentally scolded herself. Maya bit her lip and looked at the watch she’s wearing.

Her eyes widened and quickly went inside the shower. Liza was right – she needs to do things quickly. As Maya took a bath, Liza was on the kitchen preparing her breakfast. She was planning to fry eggs but was stop from doing so when she saw leftovers in Maya’s fridge. Liza just took and threw it in the oven. After a few more minutes, Maya emerged from her bedroom, just fresh from her bath.

“Maya, pinainit ko na lang yung pagkain mo sa fridge, ayos lang ba?” Liza asked.

“Ah, oo, ayos lang Liza. Yan din yung binabalak ko kagabi eh.” Maya replied.

“Bakit parang ang dami pang natira? May bisita ka ba kagabi?”

Maya made her way to her kitchen and pulled out the dish from the oven. “Nagdinner kami.” She got rice on her plate to start eating.
