Discovery and Sadness

Garmadon decided to leave, presumably to follow Lloyd.

Escape now! This is your chance!

"Um, Sensei?" Garmadon stopped. "If it's not too much trouble, could you drop me at my shop? My employee's very worried, and I have to make sure everything's alright."

He pondered this request for a few minutes.

Then he... grinned. Like your request was convenient to him.

"Well, of course! We can go out the back." He brought you out of Lloyd's room (you were sad to leave the smell) and out the back door of the monastery.

"We'll take my brother's car, I'm sure he won't mind." You laughed and replied,

"That's actually convenient, since all of my things are in his car." You slid in the front passenger's seat and Garmadon sat in the driver's seat. Thankfully, all of your things were in his car.

You started driving.

...

...

"So, Glayde," he said, startling you. "What do you do when you're not working?"

"I take my employee out for a beverage or a snack, and then I'll just hang out in the shack behind the shop." Garmadon looked concerned.

"Do you... sleep in that shack?" he asked.

"Yeah. My employee does, too. We have a bunk bed, a small kitchen, and a bathroom."

"How old are you both again?" This was starting to resemble an interrogation.

"I'm sixteen and so is my employee."

"Where are your parents?"

Ah. You did not like talking about your family.

"My dad got sick when I was younger and I lived with my mother until now. She's actually the one who owns the shop, since it's not legal for me to. I told her I wanted to find independence."

That was not entirely true. You got fed up of your mother's narcissistic and gaslighting antics and ended things on polite terms. Did she deserve politeness? No. Did you need her to own the shop for you? Yes.

"What about your employee?"

Actually, Kyle came asking for shelter, and to this day he wasn't telling you why. You had offered him shelter if he'd work for you in return. He agreed and now you have a good employee.

"Um, he lost his parents?" Why did that sound like a question. "And he asked me for shelter, and I told him he should work for me, and now he does."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Glayde." He genuinely seemed sorry. Wow. Whether Kyle had lost his parents or not, for a sensei, Garmadon was pretty gullible.

You looked outside your window and saw that you were almost about to pass your shop.

"Oh! We're here." Garmadon stopped the car. You got out and went to the trunk to get your things when you saw Garmadon starting to unload the back.

"Oh, you can wait inside," you hastily offered. "I've got it."

"Are you sure?"

"You and your brother have helped me more than enough today." You were actually trying to get him inside so you could magically float everything to the door instead of carrying it all the way from the car. He nodded (thankfully) and started towards the shop. You waited until you saw the door close and started floating things towards the door.

Then something happened.

That you did not anticipate.

Garmadon ran out while the noodles were mid-air.

"Glayde, something's very-" he stopped when he saw the floating noodles and your outstretched hands. His eyes went back and forth from you and the noodles until he smirked.

"I thought it was suspicious when you said you had caught the vase while clearly standing five feet away from it. Wu was right about you."

Of course Wu knew. It was what you had been fearing the entire time.

Nothing else you could do except beg.

"Please, Sensei," you pleaded, "don't tell him. I'm happy with my life as a shopkeeper, and I don't want to become a ninja. I'm not some Elemental Master, I'm just Glayde. Glayde Cloudwillow, caretaker of Glayde's Groceries. I need to take care of my employee and my shop. I have a life here."

Was that enough?

Garmadon watched you thoughtfully. He seemed touched, but was it enough? Finally, he shook his head and sighed.

"Whether you are an Elemental Master or not, Chen and his goons must think you are, because your shop has been destroyed and your employee is missing."

WHAT?

You ran inside to find your shop totally trashed. Shelves were on the ground and there was no Kyle in sight.

"Kyle!? KYLE!?" you yelled frantically, running to the back. He wasn't there. Maybe in the shack? You looked through the back windows. The shack was also demolished.

Kyle was gone.

"NO!" you screamed, falling to your knees.

You saw a flame in the corner of your eye.

You lifted your head. There was a kind of shrine in the corner. There was also a message attached to it, next to the picture of Kyle on his first day.

If you ever want to see him again, come to the Tournament of Elements. Meet at the dock at sundown and bring no weapons. Tell anyone and face the consequences.

You were going. There was no question about this.

It was all your fault. If you had been more careful, this wouldn't have happened.

"You want to go, don't you?" Garmadon said. You hadn't even realized he had come to stand next to you.

"I have to save him," you growled. "He's the only person I have."

"Then come with me." Garmadon stretched out his hand. You stared at it cautiously.

What would this mean? Would you be forced to be a ninja? Discover your true potential? Fight?

No, none of that matters now.

What matters is Kyle.

You put your hand in his.
