𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐄 eventually had to pry Esmeralda's arms from her, though with a heart-warmed smile on her lips the entire way. She moved onto giving hugs to Thalia and Percy after that. It surprised them both equally, but none objected—specifically Thalia, who practically melted into the woman's embrace the second her fingers combed through her short hair. The more they hugged her, the more they realized why Esmeralda didn't want to let go—not only was she comforting, but she also carried the lightest scent of sandalwood and jasmine, which calmed their muscles immensely.
Artemis politely turned down Selene's lighthearted advances.
"I must go to Olympus immediately," Artemis pursed her lips at the thought, but knew she had no other choice—the council needed her, "I will not be able to take you, but I can send help."
"Oh dear, that won't be necessary," Selene tutted and shook her head. Her oxen shuffled their hooves and raised their heads from where they had been munching away on the field's healthy grass. Her right hand rubbed up and down Esmeralda's arm while the other busied itself fixing away at Thalia's hair. The daughter of Zeus was certainly a generous bit embarrassed, but she appreciated the grounding away from Zoe's death—she knew that was Selene's goal, "We'll take my chariot. There's plenty of room."
Percy grimaced at the idea. Once—Zeus had to let that slide—but twice? He wasn't known as the most lenient of gods, quite the opposite, really, "Um..Miss Selene, are you sure it'd be safe for me to go up—"
"Oh, Zeus?" She only smiled and shook her head. Percy nodded, queasy. The way she spoke of him, her tone of voice, wasn't the most...respectful of ways. Instead, it was if she was referring to an annoying old extended family member. A fourth cousin, four times removed kind of deal, "You don't have to worry about that grouch. He owes me more than a few favors. By more than a few, I mean gigantomachy." She winked and Esmeralda softly grinned. Percy didn't really need that much more convincing after that.
Artemis turned to Annabeth, where she laid an approving hand on her shoulder, "You are brave beyond measure, my girl. You will do what is right." She then turned upon Thalia, who stiffened under her gaze, but remained confident in her stance, nonetheless. A silence conversation passed back and forth between their eyes alone. So many emotions filtered through, it was nearly difficult to ascertain which—Remorse? Confusion? All Esmeralda was sure of was the sympathy that settled. Artemis nodded.
