Months came and went. Roger was brought home, my nephew was born, my parents "helped" stop the regulators, Murtagh was gone. All the while, I took care of Murtagh's blacksmithing shop. I remember the day Jamie came and told me about Murtagh. My heart broke more that day than it ever had before.
"Faith." Jamie stood in the doorway to the shop. I didn't pay him much mind until he said my name again and I finally looked up to see his face. I quickly pulled the metal rod from the fire and wiped my hands on my apron.
"Who?" I asked, I knew someone was dead. Jamie's eyes swelled with tears. They trickled down his face slowly.
"Murtagh." He said, picking at the hat in his hands. That was the moment my heart shattered. There was no goodbye. There was no thank you's for how he treated me. I didn't get to tell him anything. I collapsed into Jamie's arms. We hugged each other tightly. We both lost our father figure.
"Your mother wants you to come home. She thinks we need to be together during this time." He finally said, letting go of me. His face was wet with tears. I didn't want to go back. I had no cares for my sister or her husband. I wouldn't go. I wasn't ready to leave my last reminder of Murtagh. I gave him a simple no in response.
"Why have ye not come home?" Jamie asked.
"You got a new daughter. Plus you have Marsali now... Didn't think I was needed." I muttered.
"Faith Elisabeth Tanner Fraser." Jamie's voice sounded upset. The same voice he used towards his grandchildren when they were in trouble. I turned to look at him.
"What?" I growled.
"Yer my daughter. I always want ye around. Whether ye like it or not. Marsali and Brianna will never replace ye." He sighed.
"I know... I just..." I looked away from him. "You're my father. But I don't feel like it some days. I wasn't raised by you or Claire. Marsali had you. Brianna had Claire. I had no one." A tear slipped from my eyes. "I had no one until I had Murtagh." We stood in silence.
"I'm here now." Jamie said softly. I know my words cut him deep. I nodded. He soon left to return to his home. There was no doubt that one day I'd return to the ridge. But for now my place was here.

Months more passed. Bree and Roger settled in at the ridge together. Marsali had another child. Father quit the British. I'd found the box Murtagh had left for me in our home. Inside was gold and gems and a note.
Faith
If you have found this, it means I have gone to the heavens above. I'm sorry, my dear. I wish I had more time on this earth to spend with ye. I need ye to ken how much I've enjoyed being yer family.
I also write to ye to tell not seclude yerself. I know ye will stay at the shop and pretend yer family isna waiting for ye. Please go be with ye family. Sell the shop. Go have the family ye never had.
MurtaghThe note made me want to return home. So I did. I rode for three days alone.
Once I reached the ridge, I gasped. The place had changed greatly since I'd laid eyes on it. Brianna was outside with Jemmy and Claire. Roger was not in sight. Neither was Jamie. Many people were out and about in the fields or by the house. Marsali was fat and pregnant, making her way towards Claire as Fergus made his way towards the still.
I drew closer as Bree and Claire began walking towards me. I finally slowed my horse along the road to the house before hopping off to walk the rest of the way.
"Faith." Claire smiled, embracing me.
"Hi..." I smiled back, turning my gaze to Brianna.
"So, it's been awhile." Bree said.
"Thought I'd finally come meet my nephew. And I needed to speak to Jamie." I said plainly. She didn't like me and I didn't like her much.
"He's out with Roger and Ian. They should be back soon." Claire said.
"Ian's back?" I grinned. While I hadn't been at the ridge in awhile, Jamie and Claire and Marsali wrote me a lot. They filled me in on the comings and goings of things.
"How long will you be staying?" Claire asked.
"Indefinitely?" I winced slightly. Her smile widened.
"What about the blacksmithing?" Bree asked as we begun our walk towards the house.
"I sold it. Murtagh's wish..." I muttered. A little boy ran towards me. He was blonde and with a brunette boy. Germain and Jemmy. Germain hugged my leg tight.
"Auntie Faith!" He squeaked. I gave him a tousle of his hair.
"Jemmy, this is your Aunt Faith." Bree explained, bending down to him. He instantly hugged my other leg. I smiled. I loved children, especially my nieces and nephews.
We continued our walk towards the house as we continued to speak. Many settlers were coming to the ridge. Several people found their home there. It was amazing. I knew my father was proud.
Roger sat quietly, doing something or other with Ian. They barely spoke a word. Ian had just returned home. Jamie stood out in the fields with one of his settlers speaking. He finished his conversation when he saw me walking towards the house.
"Your father's got another surprise for you." Claire smiled, returning to whatever she'd been doing before I'd arrived.
"Faith!" Jamie called, hurrying towards me. "Go to yer old cabin. There's someone waiting for ye there." I cocked my head sideways, trying to figure out who it was.
"Who?"
"Just go." I did as he said and quickly scurried off to the cabin I once lived in. I ran as fast as my feet could take me. I didn't know who I wanted it to be. Murtagh. Kaeden. John Gray. I don't know. I continued running until my feet found the front steps of the cabin. My hand hovered over the door. I could hear the footsteps of the person inside. The door swung open. His familiar eyes stared back at me. His face was kind, excited, joyful. His smile was wide. I stood in shock, surprised he stood before me. I'd hoped it would be him but I didn't think he'd actually be here.
