Poison in the Water

I woke up softly. The sun brushed into the little home with ease. It was one of those sleeps where you've slept so deep and your body feels rejuvenated but you don't want to move. The type of sleep where the sheets on the bed leave lines in your skin. Kaeden's arms wrapped around me, pulling him into his warmth.

"Good morning, Mo ghraidh." His voice was rough, dry, quiet.

"Morning." I smiled, looking up at him. My hand found his curls, playing with them. They were soft and thin. "Can I cut your hair?"

"Ye dont like the long hair?" He grunted, running one hand down my back to my side.

"I didn't say I don't. I know you like your hair short." I gave him a soft smile.

"If ye must, ye may cut my hair." His lips brushed my forehead softly.

"I'm sorry about Murtagh. I wanted to be here." I only nodded, agreeing with his words. We laid in silence for a little bit. His hands explored my side, up and down from the side of my breast to my ass. His touch made butterflies in my stomach. I could feel my chest rising and falling faster as his hands explored my bare body.

"Alright, Scot. You're going to do something to me that we don't have time for." I laughed lightly, pushing my body into his.

"I think we do have the time." He groaned, pulling my body onto his. His growing bulge sat underneath me.

"When are you going to marry me?" I asked, pushing off his chest into a sitting position.

"Today, tomorrow, next week. Whenever ye want." My hips grinded across him. My exposed core slick against the center of his pants. "I dinna think we had the time." He perked a brow, gripping my hips tightly.

"It's been a year since we've been together. These past few weeks, I've needed to make it up." I mumbled, rocking over him again. "I don't want it to be another year before I have the chance."

"Aye." He agreed, weaving his fingers into my hair. Kaeden forced my head down to his, kissing me gently but roughly, like he'd die if he didn't. His fingers dug into my hip as I shifted over his long shaft. He let out a groan.

"Stop teasing me, woman."

"Not much fun, is it?" I smirked, kissing down his jaw and to his neck. His pants slipped down his legs. His powerful arms flipped me onto my back. He ripped open my shift, devouring my neck down to my breasts. His tongue searched every inch of my chest, sucking on each peak with devotion. His rough hand drifted down to my core, gripping it roughly.

"I willna be nice, Mo ghraidh." He groaned.

"Then don't, my love." I moaned, fisting whatever hair I could grab. His fingers pumped in and out of me, roughly, drawing more and more wetness. Those lush lips traveled down my ribs, my waist, until stopping just above where my pants sat. He removed his fingers, forcing a whimpers to escape my mouth.

He quickly lined himself to me, not allowing me to catch my breath before he charged into me. I let out a harsh moan as he dove deeply. His body pushed against me with each thrust. His mouth explored my neck.

"My name will be the only name on yer lips." He mumbled against my neck. "My cock will be the only one ye think about whenever ye want to indulge yerself." The pressure started to build within me. He pace quickened with each thrust, burying himself in me, reaching places I didn't know existed. "I will put a baby in ye, Faith Fraser." His tongue glided over my ear, sending tingles down my side.

"Kaeden." I breathed, pleasure sparked through my body.

"Ye are mine, Mo ghraidh." Kaeden groaned in my ear before finding my mouth again. The pleasure became to much. My back arched highly, shoving my hips farther into his thrusts. One of his arms wrapped under my back as he raised up on his knees. He yanked me down against him with only a few more pumps before another moan escaped me.

"Kae-" I attempted to say, but my senses lost me in the haze of glorious pleasure at a orgasmed onto him. My core pulsated against him. He emptied into me, slowing his pace. He laid back over me, kissing my neck and sweaty chest.

"Mo ghraidh." His hands brushed over my forehead, pushing to stray hairs from it.

"My love." I responded, wrapping my arms around his neck.

"I will marry ye before the week is done." He whispered, kissing me gently before laying next to me. I pushed my body into his arms, wrapping myself in him, soaking up his scent.

"Faith, come quick. It's Jamie!" Ian screamed from outside. I jumped off the bed, pulling on some pants and a tunic. Kaeden was hot on my trail, doing the same. By the time I reached Claire's clinic, Jamie laid on the table. They stood over him, examining his leg. Snake bite. Claire pulled Marsali outside the doors. I placed Jamie's hand in mine.

"Claire will fix you." I smiled softly.

"I dinna think she will this time." He grunted. Marsali grabbed Kaeden and I, sending us after maggots. We spent most of the day searching, but to no avail. None could be found. Typically, they were easy to find. But the fates or God or whoever was above seemed to have other ideas.

Bree sat next to me, turning over stones, looking into logs.

"Do you think he will die?" I asked, flipping another rock.

"No, mama is smart. She'll figure something out." Bree stated, like she knew the future.

"I just found them." I muttered, sitting down in defeat. Her hand found mine, as did her eyes.

"Jamie will be alright, Faith." I nodded at her attempt, feeling the fear creep in still. "He's stronger than you think."

Hours passed until someone finally found maggots. Bree stood on the porch with Claire. I stayed in my spot on the steps a few feet away, cleaning some of the bison meat.

"It's bad." Claire mumbled. It's all I heard. He was going to die. I would be fatherless once more. My hands released the meat as I disappeared towards the nearby creek. I needed air. I needed something other than the pain in my chest. I'd lost Murtagh and now I'd lose Jamie too. That little girl inside me screamed. All she wanted was to cuddle up on her Da's lap while he sang gentle songs to her. That little girl cried.

The all too familiar hands found my shoulders, pulling me against his chest. Kaeden. It was like he had a sixth sense about me. He always knew when something was wrong. He always knew where to find me too.

"He's going to die." I muttered, tossing a pebble into the running water.

"He's strong. She's smart. Dinna fash." His words brushed over my ear.

"What if it isn't"

"I dinna ken. We will figure it out." His hands dropped around my waist. "Come. Ye need rest."

Kaeden took me back to our little home. Hours, days passed before there was any word on Jamie. At some point, Bree had made some discovery that only she, Rodger, and Claire could understand. Whatever it was, Jamie healed from the snakebite.
