Chapter 7
Blinking rapidly, I tried my hardest to read the math problems scrawled on the black board. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t focus. It was all just a bunch of jumbled up, blurry letters that made no sense what-so-ever! Am I getting dyslexia? No, I just haven’t gotten enough sleep. I haven’t slept for about three days and it’s just a bite in the bum. I can’t handle the stupid dreams anymore! I blinked a million more times before I finally got the first mathematical problem written down on my paper.
Slowly, my eyes started drifting shut. Just one minute, only one. A loud snort got me out of my almost sleep. No, I can’t do it! I’m not going to fall asleep! This will not happen!
And then it appeared. A pig just waltzed into the room as if it owned it. I blinked a few times and rubbed my eyes, making sure I wasn’t hallucinating, but it was as clear as day.
I leaned over to my right and whispered to the girl next to me, “Do you see that?”
She looked around the room, trying to figure out what I was talking about. “See what?” She whispered back.
I don’t understand. It’s right in front of her! I glared at it. “The pig! The pink thing right in front of your desk! How can you not see it?”
She looked at me like I was crazy. “There’s not a pig there! I know it’s April and all, but that’s the most lame fool I have ever heard!”
My eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
What’s going on? I squeezed my eyes tightly shut, and when I opened them, the pig wasn’t in sight, but there was something much worse. So, I screamed. I screamed for dear life and fled the room. I could hear its heavy footsteps chasing me down the corridor. It’s big, floppy red shoes chasing after me. I heard its bloody nose honk a disgustingly gushy sound.
I screamed again, but this time my scream formed into words, “HELP!” I screamed and screamed and screamed until students started coming out of classrooms and looked fervently up and down the halls. The eyebrows creased with sweat, not knowing what to do. And then they looked back at me, the crazy person running down the hall. I looked back behind me, desperately wanting them to get rid of the fat, bloody clown behind me. Only there was one problem. It wasn’t there anymore.
What’s happening? I rubbed my eyes wildly, wanting this whole situation to be gulped up into a giant black hole. When I stopped rubbing my eyes, they were all staring at me. Every! Single! Person! And then they all laughed. They laughed until tears started stinging at my eyes. They laughed until I was full on weeping. They laughed until I started running; running away from the horribly cruel place; running away from further embarrassment; running from the crazy, yet very vivid hallucinations.
I slammed the door to my room and spun around slamming into a wall. Where’d that come from? I placed my hands out in front of me, placing them onto a black wall. I stared at it curiously as my tears started to dry. I blinked a few times, hoping that this time, I wasn’t hallucinating. I rubbed my eyes, yet the wall was still there. And when I was positive I wasn’t hallucinating.
I rubbed my hands up and down the wall, finding a crease in it. I blinked a few more times, and the black wall still appeared. I pushed on the wall near the crease, and fell forward, hitting the ground with a loud ‘BAM’! I groaned, rubbed my head, and stood up.
Staring around me in curiosity, though not really finding anything that answers any of my questions like: What’s wrong with me? Am I going insane? Where am I? What am I supposed to do? What happens next?
I looked down, only to find an old, dark playground bellow my feet; a little girl in a dark black dress, her eyes closed, was laying down on her back on the merry-go-round. She seemed so lonely and depressed, I just wanted to comfort her and tell everything would be okay. But I couldn’t. I banged on the translucent surface bellow me, but it would break. I screamed out, “Little girl, up here!” But it was like she didn’t even know I was here, that was until the creepiest thing happened.
