I wake up before Brit. She is asleep in the bed with her hands up by her head, like a pillow. I sit up on the floor, and stretch out my arms. I notice Hena is laying at the end of the bed, "Good morning!" She says, and I smile
"Good morning to you, too." I am still smiling, "How'd you sleep?"
"Great! Beary hit me in the night," she says, "I'm mad at him."
"Maybe Beary is sorry,"
She crosses her arms, "No. Beary is never sorry. It's his faw." I think she meant to say flaw, but it's cute how she still has a hard time speaking. Brit yawns, "What's up with all the ruckus?"
"What's up with you getting up so late?"
"Late! It's only 7:30!"
"Exactly," I say incapable of holding back a laugh. She throws a pillow at me. I can't help but throw it back. She grabs it, and lays her head on it, snuggling in with it, making it clear she's not getting up. Hena jumps up on Brit's bed and under to comforter, to lay with her. She lets out a sigh, when her older sister wraps an arm around her. "Fine, I'll go see Jaeger."
"No!" Brit is up and awake, when I open the door. "He's not a morning person," she says, but I don't believe her.
"Well, I'll make him a morning person. You made it clear you don't want to do anything. He can't be any worse than you."
"I'm up, now. I will do what ever you wanna do, and I'm sure Hena will, too. Jaeger doesn't need to be disturbed, at all. Ever. Especially in the mornings."
"Why?"
"No reason, he just isn't disturbed in the mornings." I decide to let it go. What's up with these people? They seem so secretive about everything. i wonder why. "Do you wanna get breakfast?" Brit asks
I nod.
"I want breakfast!" Hena yells, running for the door. We follow her to the kitchen.
Jaeger is up. "What are you doing up?" Brit asks Jaeger.
"Nothing happened."
"What do you mean? It's always happened. Mom—"
"Mom was wrong, I guess. I don't know. I really don't know how or why, and she's dead, so she can't tell me shit."
"Don't talk about Mom like that, she did what she could!"
I have no clue what they are talking about, but they end up going back and forth about their Mom. I've stopped paying attention. What were they talking about, 'Nothing happened', what was that supposed to mean? "Addilyn?" Brit asks, "You look sick, are you okay?"
"What? I'm fine. Just lost in thought."
"Brit, you don't think..."
"I don't know. Mom never told me much more than what I needed to know," she turns her attention back to Jaeger, "I mean, it makes sense, but who's the parent. Which parent? And most importantly...what's the power?"
"Brit, I am so confused."
They both look at me, Jaeger turns to Hena, "Hena, can you go to your room, please."
"I can eat in my room?" Jaeger nods, "Okay!" And she is off.
"Okay, how do we tell her?" Brit asks
Jaeger looks at me, "Do you know both your parents?"
"No, my Dad died before I was born. I don't really know much about him. I really don't know why it matters, though."
