The group was ready to fight. Everyone waited for something none of us saw. We didn't know how many zombies were on their way to eat us alive, or how far away Yangdong was, but what we knew for sure was that this was the only way out.
Fighting. One last time.
While my strong grip on the shovel remained, the horrified thoughts about what could happen next did too.
What if someone gets bitten? I thought, trying any possible thing to shake away my negative thoughts.
In not even a blink of an eye the same familiar sound grew louder and louder.
The growls.
Not much later the first zombies appeared in front of us. Su-hyeok, who stood in front of the group didn't hesitate for a second, immediately making his way towards the zombies.
He slammed his shovel against a zombies head, moving onto the next one as Dae-su did the same, slamming the shovel into the zombie Su-hyeok just pushed onto the ground.
As more and more zombies attacked the group, everyone was doing the same as the two boys in the front.
While Dae-su pushed a zombie against the shop's wall, being completely distracted from what was happening behind him, another zombie took advantage of the moment, attacking Dae-su. He got tackled to the ground, grunting helplessly as he tried to push the zombies off of him over and over again.
Luckily, there was no zombie for me to fight off, so I rushed over to Dae-su, grabbing the zombie by it's hair as I pulled it's head back, shoving the shovel through his neck. Both Dae-su and I looked at the zombie, the traumatizing sight taking us aback for a moment.
The zombies head ripped off of it's body, dropping onto the ground. The two of us stared at the separated head that was still growling.
Without giving it a second thought, I took my shovel, slamming it into the middle of the zombies head as the growls grew quieter until they were completely gone.
Quickly, I helped Dae-su up by extending my hand to him.
I stood up as another zombie approached me. Before it came too close I ran towards it, holding the shovel tightly as it rammed itself inside the shovel. I pulled it out of the zombies stomach, cringing at the sound it made.
However, this didn't prevent the zombie from coming closer which I didn't expect. Soon enough the zombies was inches away from my face, growling right into it.
I used all my bodyweight to push it off, but the zombie was too strong and pushed me to the ground, me hitting my head on the cold asphalt in the process.
There it was, the feeling I hoped never to feel again. That annoying sound, the blurriness.
My head pounded so unbelievably much, it was almost impossible to remain my grip on the zombie.
A moment later I heard blurred out yells of my name, feeling the weight of the zombie being lifted from me.
I squinted my eyes, trying anything to see what was happening when I suddenly saw clearer again.
My eyes widened, seeing Su-hyeok fighting off the zombie that just attacked me. He tried to kick it off, but the zombie gripped his leg in the last moment possible, both of them crashing onto the ground.
The zombie was now on top of Su-hyeok while he tried to push it off, failing.
I crawled to him, not able to stand up properly because my head was spinning. Seeing the zombie being this close to Su-hyeok made my heart race faster than it already did.
