"Crap, stupid wifi and data," he grumbled. He checked the dorm folder and figured out the wifi and slumped onto his bare bunk bed. Opening his messages, he read each message until the thought finally reached his head.
Avery had gotten into a car crash and died.
His head started to pound, and his heart started to race. The blood rushed to his ears, and his hands started to shake.
No. It can't be possible. She was just stuck in traffic. I just got a voicemail from her. No, it's not real. She- no. No. She's fine.He dialed her phone number, and her voicemail picked up. Hey, it's Avery! I'm currently away from the phone right now, but if you leave a message, I'll get back to ya! Love ya!
C'mon Aves. Pick up. Pick up.He dialed 3 more times, but it went to voicemail every time. He dialed his mom, and sobbing sounds were heard through the phone.
"Mom. It's not true. Please, mom."
"S-She's gone. I saw her with my own eyes. I- My baby, I-I'm at the hospital, but there's nothing t-they could do for her. They said she... she died on on impact. Luke- I- She- Gosh, it was horrible. So- so much- so much... blood. It- and they- they said she had a broken neck, and her ribs w-were crushed. I- I'm with her parents. We're outside the hospital. I'm- Luke baby, say something." Mrs. Harrison sobbed into the phone.
"I- She- No. We just- It can't be. Mom, mom. Please. Mom. Please tell me it's a joke. That she's f-fine. Please. She- No, No, No." He slowly and quietly sobbed his heart out. He stormed out of his dorm room and weaved through the hall until he had made it outside. The building was suffocating, closing in on him.
He would never be able to see her again. See her beautiful face, hold her in his arm, talk to her about anything. Never be able to pick her up again, never be able to hear her sweet voice, never be able to hug her, never again. She was gone. Forever.
Lucas's silent sobs turned into pleads of why, into loud cries of why. Why her? Why is she gone. She had so much ahead of her. We were gonna get married and have a ton of kids and live in a big house and- and now it's all gone.
He screamed and punched the brick building, not feeling the pain, until his knuckles were bloody. The bruises started setting in, and pain shot through his hand. Lucas paced and breathed heavily. His hands shook violently, and he could hear the blood rushing to his ears. Tears stream down his face and his hair was tossed with stress. He glanced at his hands and realized they were streaming with blood and it was getting serious. He rushed into the building and looked for the nearest bathroom. He rinsed his hands off and sobbed silently. He splashed water onto his face and blew his nose. All better? Right? Tears came again and he splashed cold water on his face. Suddenly a stall unlocked and a... girl walked out.
She stood their shocked and then looked at his sink, redness covering the sink.
"Ohmigosh. Are you alright? Did you murder someone?" She flashed a worried look, before shuffling through her bag.
"N-No. Just. Stuff Happened." He sniffled and straightened.
"Um, here's some antiseptics and some gauze. I'm a sports player so- Nevermind. Are you alright? Like um, yknow. Not your fists, your," she motioned to his face and he quickly wiped his eyes. Handing him the materials, he nodded thanks and quickly bandaged his hands.
"Oh, I- n-no. My girlfriend just- she, just got in an a-accident, and s-she didn't make.. she didn't make it. And I- I'm never gonna see her ever again. I already miss her like hell, and I just- and-" he sobbed into his hands and screamed in pain.
The girl gave him a quick but comforting hug.
"I'm so so sorry. Did it just happen? Like right now?" the girl sat on the cold tiles next to him.
"I just- I called my mom- she- she told me and- she was there- at the h-hospital, and she saw her, and-"
The girl gave him a look that said, you don't have to say anything, just cry.
After another 5 minutes passed, Lucas stood up and looked down. In realization, he mumbled, "I'm so aggrieved that I walked into the girls bathroom, huh."
The girl softly laughed and whispered, "Yeah, I wasn't gonna tell you but, hey you needed it. Oh, I'm Gianna, by the way."
"Ah, well, thank you for the items, Gianna. And for the comfort. You barely know me, but have helped me. I appreciate that. I'm gonna leave before anyone comes in. Have a great day, " Lucas muttered his thanks before walking to his dorm. He started unpacking to get his mind off what had happened, but everything reminded him of her. She had been there through his entire life, and now she was just stripped away.
Lucas flopped onto his bed and softly cried again. He set and alarm for 6 o'clock and shoved his head under the covers. He eventually sobbed himself to sleep, but all that came of sleeping were nightmares. Her getting hit by a car, her drowning, her being tortured, and he could do nothing to stop her. He woke up in a cold sweat and fell back asleep.
How would he ever go on without her?
