WE STILL DON'T HAVE THE WAND. GREAT. NOW WHAT?
GUESS WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SURVIVE SCHOOL TILL WE FIGURE OUT A PLAN B. UGH!
The next morning, you all had your first class in Remedial Goodness, and honestly, you were miserable. You had never expected the "good" side to be so dull.
"If someone hands you a crying baby," Fairy Godmother said, "do you: A. curse it, B. lock it in a tower, C. give it a bottle, or D. carve out its heart?"
Next to you, Evie raised her hand. Fairy Godmother smiled and nodded. "What was the second one?" Evie asked.
"Oh, okay..." Fairy Godmother responded. "Anyone else?"
You let out a small scoff at the affluent fairy's attention towards you, and she smiled. "Y/N, care to give it a try?" You shrugged your shoulders. "C," you said. Fairy Godmother smiled and nodded. "Good job, you and Mal are doing well," she said, turning to the board to circle the correct answer.
Behind you, you heard Carlos exclaim, "Geez, girl, you're good." You turned your head towards him, smiling at him, while Mal said, "Just pick whatever sounds the least evil." The others "oohed" in response.
Suddenly, your attention was drawn to someone new. A young girl in a pale blue dress with a big blue bow on her head entered the classroom. You rested your head on your hand, observing the new arrival as she approached Fairy Godmother.
"Hello, dear one," Fairy Godmother greeted her.
"Hi. You need to sign off on early dismissal for the coronation," the girl said.
In front of you, Mal stopped drawing in her book to look at the girl. You could sense the fear emanating from her. Poor thing, you thought. When the girl's eyes flicked towards you, you gave her a kinder smile than expected. If this little mouse stumbled upon something, she needed friendship. Mal glanced at you, and you nodded. You had already devised a plan.
"Everyone here remembers my daughter, Jane," Fairy Godmother said as she signed the form.
"Mom!" Jane whispered.
"That's okay," Fairy Godmother replied, turning Jane to face all of you.
"Jane, this is everyone."
Jane gave a feeble wave. "Hi. That's okay. Don't mind me. As you were," she said, bowing and rushing out of the room.
"Forgive Jane," Fairy Godmother said. "I may have told her a few too many bedtime stories about your... parents." She cleared her throat. "Let's continue." She returned to the blackboard. "You find a vial of poison. Do you: A. put it in the king's wine, B. paint it on an apple, or C. turn it over to the proper authorities?"
Three hands shot up.
Carlos and Jay competed to be chosen.
You rolled your eyes. Boys, you thought and looked down at your book. When you arrived from the Isle, Mal had given you one of her spare sketchbooks. You didn't have much, but this was something you cherished.
And for someone who didn't think much, you were good.
You tuned out the rest of the conversation, and when the class was over, you walked with Mal and Evie back to your rooms. Jay and Carlos caught up with you. "Hey, wanna come to the field with us?" Jay suggested. "FG thinks Carlos and I should try out for the tournament team." You looked up and shrugged, a gesture you had been doing quite frequently lately.
"Sure," you said, giving the boys a smile before you, Mal, and Evie sauntered into your rooms.
Once ready, you all headed out, following the boys out of the school and towards the field.
As you noticed several AKs (Auradon Knights) present, an interest bubbled within you.
You thought this was interesting and sat on a bench with Mal and Evie beside you.
The boys got into action, and poor Carlos had no idea what to do. Jay, as usual, went solo and knocked down many of his teammates, just like the others. But he managed to succeed, at least.
After Jay had thrown the ball down into the grass, he noticed many people lying on the ground, groaning. You stood up from the bench, ran to Carlos, and helped him. Jay looked somewhat puzzled as the coach called him over. "I'm going to show you something you've never seen before," the coach said with a smirk. "It's called a rulebook."
You glared at the coach and helped Carlos to the bench while Jay sighed and walked away with Evie and Mal.
Ben approached. "I can work with him, Coach," he said, referring to Carlos. The poor guy had yet to be given a fair chance.
The coach nodded and walked away. You, Carlos, and Ben were left behind. "I can stay here with you guys," you said, looking up at Ben. "If that's alright with you, Prince." Ben smiled and nodded. "Of course."
Then he walked away, leaving you and Carlos. You placed a hand on Carlos's shoulder. "Come on, let's get you into some different clothes," you said, and together, you made your way back to the dormitory.
Watching Ben train Carlos may not have been the most exciting thing, but you did it anyway.
After a while, you heard barking and saw a brindle-colored dog running toward you. You knew immediately that Carlos would scream and run away. As expected, Carlos noticed the dog, screamed and darted up a tree. You sighed and chased after him, with Ben close behind.
When you found your friend, he was perched quite high up on a tree branch while the scruffy dog waited patiently below, wagging its tail. You cautiously reached out, unsure if the dog was friendly, but it approached and licked your fingers when it noticed your intention to touch it. The tension in your body eased instantly, and you lifted the dog carefully into your arms. Its fur felt soft against your skin, and you smiled.
Ben smiled too, and then he turned to Carlos. "It's alright; Dude won't harm anyone," he reassured, pointing at you and the dog, whom you now learned was called Dude. You looked up at Carlos, giving him a welcoming smile, and after a few seconds, he cautiously reached out his hand. Dude wagged his tail and pressed his snout into Carlos's hand.
You smiled. The dog was warm, and it was good to see him being so gentle with a boy who had only seen dogs as violent creatures that hurt disobedient boys. Someday, when you might return to the Isle, Cruella would pay for what she did to her son.
And to put it lightly, it wouldn't be pretty.
"I'll let you two get acquainted," Ben said, patting you on the shoulder before he walked away. You and Carlos sat on a tree stump and got to know the school's mascot.
