My scream filled up the air in the hospital corridor, my kneel hit the ground. My body was shaking uncontrollably as I started hyperventilating, tears was rolling from my eyes. Ippei quickly ran outside to call for help. A few nurses were rushing towards us. They kneeled beside him and checked his pulse.
The color drained from their faces.
"We have to take him to emergency", one of them spoke sternly to her colleagues.
Soon he was carried out on the stretcher and taken straight to the emergency room. I and Ippei followed behind, still unable to believe what was happening before our eyes. I had the feeling that I was dreaming. Running behind, my legs were shaky and limp. The reality made it all seem so surreal. I couldn't help but thinking that this couldn't possibly be real.
When the nurses arrived, they started carrying the stretcher to the main room and placed it onto the patient stretcher.
"Call a doctor now!", one of them exclaimed sternly to her colleague.
I stepped back, leaving them to it, standing next to Shohei's bed, staring down at him. His head lay sideways across the pillow. His chest rising and falling softly and evenly.
The doctors came quickly and started to check his vitals and the wounds on his face, his hands and his arms. When they got to his back, their expressions changed slightly, but they continued their work.
"Due to his spinal injury, his lung function has been compromised, causing abnormal blood flow in the lungs, which results in coughing up blood." Dr. Murphy announced. He looked at us and said apologetically, "I am sorry, we need to operate immediately,"
"But his condition isn't stable! What should we do?" I exclaimed loudly, looking at the doctor desperately.
"Right now the chances of recovery aren't very high, but we must try to do everything we can. Y/N, please stay here with Mr. Ohtani, if you please. Ippei, are you his legal guardian? We need to talk to you", the doctor informed Ippei.
I didn't know what to say so I nodded, not caring anymore about the procedure.

It was 11:50 PM. The light of the surgery room was turned on. I was waiting anxiously in the hallway. I stood quietly, my eyes fixed at the door of the operating theatre where the surgery was taking place, trying not to fidget with my fingers in fear of ruining it.It was quiet outside. No voices, no crying, no movement. There were no sounds of instruments being operated, no screams of pain. Nothing.
"You should take a rest". I suddenly heard someone whisper, turning around Ippei had approached me silently.
"What?" I asked confused.
"Sho's under surgery, you're not sleeping well at night. Your eyes are bloodshot and you look exhausted" he simply answered.
