AUTHORS' POV

After that day, things settled into a new routine. Subi was busy with her new position as Director of the school and was handling everything efficiently. Despite her promotion, Subi chose to continue teaching her Class 10th B, as she genuinely loved those kids and wanted to remain a part of their lives.

Nirmaan had been in Singapore for the past three weeks. Though both were swamped with their responsibilities, they still found time to talk and share the day's events.

At the moment, Subi was busy collecting her things in the office, preparing to leave for home. She had been feeling sick since morning, suffering from a headache and nausea. Sipping some water, she picked up her stuff and left the office.

Just as she got into her car, her phone rang. Fishing it out of her bag, she saw it was Nirmaan calling.

Maan: "Hey, my wild cat, how was your day?"

Biwi: "Nothing much, you tell? Did you do something interesting?"

Subi's voice sounded unusually low, which immediately worried Nirmaan.

Maan: "What's wrong, Biwi?"

Biwi: "Nothing, just a little headache and nausea hitting me."

Maan: "Did you see a doctor? And you need to stop stressing yourself."

Biwi: "I'm fine, Maan. Don't worry, it's just a regular headache. I'll take some medicine and..."

Maan: "No, you're not allowed to take any medication until recommended. Now go to the doctor and call me after."

Biwi: "Maan, you're overreacting. Just relax. I'm absolu..."

Maan: "Wait a minute... are you feeling tired? Do you feel sore, aching, or tingling in your breasts?"

Biwi: "Maan, what are you trying to say?"

Maan: "I'm saying, maybe you're pregnant?"

Biwi: "You're thinking too much. It's been three weeks since..." (she glanced at the driver, remembering his presence in the car.)

Maan: "Exactly, it's been three weeks. You should make sure. Now go to the doctor and I'll call you later. No more arguments."

With that, Maan cut the call. Subi asked the driver to take her to the hospital. Meanwhile, Maan sat on the sofa in his suite, fervently wishing for the news to be true.

Since leaving for Singapore, Maan had felt profoundly alone. His thoughts constantly circled around Subi and the dream of starting a family with her. The idea of a child, a symbol of their love, filled his mind—a beautiful flower blooming from the love and care they shared.

In his spare time, he'd been researching everything about pregnancy—symptoms, care, and how to support his wife during such a time. It seemed his research might soon become a reality, though he wasn't ready to let his hopes rise too high, only to be shattered.

Subi was incredibly nervous as she waited for her results. The doctor had told her it might take a few hours. She didn't want to leave the hospital without knowing, so she waited in the hospital's cafeteria, her leg shaking with anxiety. Two hours had passed when her phone suddenly rang.

"Hello, Mrs. Rathore?" the doctor's voice came through.

"Hello, Doctor. Are my reports ready?" she asked nervously.

"Yes, you can come to the hospital."

"I'm actually in the cafeteria. I'll be there in a few minutes. Thank you." Picking up her bag, she rushed towards the doctor's cabin, her heart pounding in her chest.

Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and entered the doctor's office.

"Mrs. Rathore, please take a seat," the doctor said, gesturing to the chair in front of her. Subi sat down, her nerves on edge.

"I've got your reports," the doctor began. "It might be too early to say definitively, as sometimes early tests can yield false positives. As you mentioned, it's only been three weeks since you last consummated with your partner. Your results came out positive, but we can't be certain at this stage. We will need to conduct another test after you complete six weeks."

Subi's mind was a whirl of emotions—hope, anxiety, and cautious optimism.

"Thank you, Doctor," she managed to say.

"For now, take care of yourself, rest, and avoid any unnecessary stress. I'll see you again in a few weeks for the follow-up," the doctor advised.

Subi felt a whirlwind of emotions as she left the hospital. The possibility of becoming a mother filled her with joy, yet the doctor's caution haunted her thoughts. She couldn't bear the idea of shattering Nirmaan's heart if the news turned out to be premature or false. With a low "thank you" to the doctor, she accepted her prescriptions and left the building, her mind racing.

Back home, she sat in her room, the weight of uncertainty pressing down on her. Her heart ached not only from the news but also because Nirmaan wasn't there with her. She longed for his presence, especially during such a pivotal moment in their lives. Just then, her phone buzzed with a call from Nirmaan, eager to know about her reports.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Subi answered the video call, forcing a smile.

Maan: "Hey, you feeling any better?"

Biwi: "Hmmm..."

Maan: "What did the doctor say?"

Biwi: "She said it's too early to say anything. We'll have to wait for three more weeks to confirm the pregnancy. But she also gave me some vitamins, just to be on the safe side, and a list of things to eat."

Maan: "Don't worry. Just eat healthy and don't stress about anything. No matter what the results are, I'll always be with you."

Biwi: "Thanks, Maan. You're the best."

Maan: "Well, that's true."

They both shared a light laugh at his comment. Subi playfully called him a "self-obsessed Gabbar," and with a heartfelt "I love you," they ended the call.

Despite the smiles exchanged, both felt a lingering sadness. They were heartbroken over the uncertainty of their future, yet neither was willing to show it. Nirmaan wanted his wife to be strong and optimistic, while Subi didn't want to burden him with her worries, especially when she was still grappling with the idea of a positive pregnancy test.

As she sat alone in her room, Subi resolved to take care of herself and wait for the time when she could share the news with Nirmaan, hoping that when the moment came, it would be filled with joy rather than fear. Until then, she would keep this secret close to her heart, cherishing the thought of their future family while hoping for the best.

Not giving it much thought, Subi went to bed with the hope that her reports would come out positive when she went again and that her husband would be by her side. Praying to God, she closed her eyes and drifted into a deep slumber.

On the other hand, Nirmaan was nowhere near relaxed. He was feeling increasingly anxious, and all he wanted was to go back home. Even though his work only had five days left, he wished he could leave immediately. All he wanted was to be with his Biwi now.

What do you think, will happen?
Will there be another problem waiting for them?
Let's see in next chapter
