Ricky sat on the edge of the hospital bed.

shit.

"Im so sorry ricky.." the doctor finished.

yes, he'd known ever since a he was young he never belonged in this world. but recently the hospital became more of a second home for him.

ricky just sat there, a single tear sliding down his cheek.

one fucking year.

and that was a generous estimate.

Yeah; his 17th birthday was in 3 months, so he wasn't even gonna make it to 18. Ofcourse he wasn't. Ricky Potts. A shitty kid with a shitty disease stuck in a shitty hospital.

how was he gonna tell his friends? his parents knew; they weren't surprised when they found out the disease was getting worse. They could tell.

Over the years, Ricky had learned not to take his life for granted. Then again, he'd learned not to love it; i mean why bother when you know you aren't gonna be around long enough for it to actually get good?

why did he ask penny out.

why did they fucking say yes.

now they're gonna have to deal with him gone.

ricky potts.

dead in a year.

the doctor walked over, a frown on her face as she handed ricky an envelope to hand to his parents; probably another hospital bill.

that's good. theres a positive. when he's finally gone, his parents won't have to deal with him anymore. they can put their money towards something good; not climb a building debt because of their ill child.

maybe ricky being gone would be a good thing.

after the doctor left; ricky opened the letter neatly, ready to seal it back up again.

he read it, accidentally smudging the ink with his tears as they fell softly onto the page.

4th March 2023

Dear Mr and Mrs Potts,

As looking deeper into Richard's illness, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that it is best that he stays in hospital until we see any glimpse of hope. We have already informed him of his death and we will try our best to make the rest of his life as hopeful as possible.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of development in medicine, we have no cure or treatment to your son's disease, but we hope to investigate further. We currently are estimating 6 months of your sons life left, maybe a year if we are to be hopeful, but we can confirm that he will have a guaranteed 5 months of his life. We are so sorry to inform you of this, and we do hope that you can cope well. Feel free to email us if you have any questions.

Yours, Doctor Karnak.

Half an hour later, he was staring down at his phone, a grim look on his face. His face had turned white as paper in fear.

Calling: My Love<33

Penny answered the phone with a smile, their face dropping slightly seeing the depression on ricky's face.

"whats wrong love?" they asked nervously.

'the doctor came to talk to me.' ricky typed in their chat. They worked out a system for whilst they called. Penny did the talking, and Ricky typed things in chat meanwhile.

"what did they say..?" they knew it was bad as soon as the call started, but nothing could prepare them for what he was about to say.

the two words that ruined both of their lives.

'six months'

The line went dead silent, not even the rustling of the speakers were heard.

"y..you're kidding right..? your not funny ricky.. its just a joke, stop fucking joking."

Ricky shook his head.

Penny sat there, not bothering to hide their tears as they ruthlessly streamed down their face, their light mascara staining a blackness under their eyes.

"no.. nonono, ricky you're not meant to die. you and i are meant to be together forever. we're a team, remember? we're going to stick together.. we had a plan. we're going to get a house together.. a-and have a life! and... fuck, ricky you can't fucking die!!"

'im sorry.'
