"I didn't expect less of you, detective."

His gun was pointed at her face and he could have shot her here and there but his finger remained frozen on the trigger.

"The branch of the plum tree helped." He said with a bitter laugh as he held it with so much frustration it could snap at any given moment. The branch had three buds about to blossom, but one had fallen on the hard and cold floor. "I still don't understand why you did all of this..."

"The great detective Xingqiu and his sidekick, the silly but pretty Hu Tao~" A chuckle escaped her lips. "It was nice while it lasted."

"Did you enjoy seeing me struggle to find your real identity?"

"Com'on don't make it look like I'm the bad guy, though maybe I did for a bit." More anger was boiling inside of him with each word coming out of her mouth. She was just playing with him. She was trying to push him into a corner and he knew that all too well. "Why don't you shoot."

She stared right at him with her scarlet eyes, defying him.

"I want you to tell me why you killed these people first."

"You know it's better for you not to know, detective Xingqiu."

"Then... Why did you make it so obvious to have me catch you?"

The 'Butterfly', called that way due to pinning the victims on the wall similarly done with an entomology spreading board, was known to be an extremely careful person. Hu Tao had been tagging along for two years already and it made no sense for her to suddenly leave blatant clues when she had gone unnoticed for so long while being close to him. It was as if she was asking to be arrested.

"I accomplished my goal so there's no more reason for me to keep on and I thought, should someone put an end to this, I would rather it be you." He clicked his tongue and turned away, his armed hand coming to rest on his side. Just then, the sound of sirens started to ring from outside, announcing reinforcements. Xingqiu crouched down in front of Hu Tao to put the handcuffs around her wrists. She hummed a song as he did, smiling serenely until cops ran in. As they were about to escort her out, she looked at her former partner again. "See you next time, under the plum tree."
