"Who is he...?"
"Oh, that must be... The son of the schoolmaster."
Kazuha stared at a short dark-haired man passing by in the opposite hallway, his gaze did not leave him until he disappeared behind the shoji door of a room. This part of the building was off-limits for outsiders so his teacher was right to say he most likely belonged to the Kabukimono family. It was strange that he never heard about this son though. They were rather well-known for having a famous floral arrangement school and almost each of its members, be it from the main bloodline or a distant relative, had undoubtedly pursued a career within the same field.
"I can feel the wind be unsteady. Do you have any questions perhaps?"
"Why did I only hear about him today?" asked the blond.
His teacher scratched his chin with contempt. It already looked like a difficult matter.
"He's not really interested in the family's business you see..."
"Is that so... I thought the headmaster would have forced him still."
"Seems not. To be fair, he doesn't get any attention from any of the family members for some reason."
Kazuha did not usually concern himself with other people. However, the man's eyes were filled with such sorrow he could not ignore it.
"Does he come here often?"
"Hmm, not really. It's actually surprising to see him out of his room."
"I see."
"W-Wait-! Kazuha! Where do you think you're going!?"
His teacher's yelling did not reach his ears as he walked toward the room the other went into. His steps were determined, yet somehow soundless, like a maple leaf falling softly. He pushed on the sliding door just enough to have space to enter, startling the one already inside.
"W-Who are you-?! You can't come here-!" shrieked the dark-haired one.
"Sorry, I'll apologize as much as you want after this if you wish."
"What the hell...
Kazuha was glad to see his intuition was not wrong. He came closer to the other, careful so as not to step on the flowers and branches laying around, then sat down next to him with a smile drawn on his lips. The composition was a bit clumsy in some parts but it was obvious that he had put a lot of effort into it.
"I forgot to ask your name, I'm Kaedehara Kazuha by the way."
"Kuni... kuzushi..."
"That's a beautiful name."
He let out a chuckle to lighten up the mood. Kunikuzushi looked away, his fists on his lap gripping the fabric of his clothes.
"What's your purpose here...?"
His words sounded hostile but seeing how he did not try to chase him out told Kazuha that he did the right thing.
"I came to see you."
"What are you on..."
"I heard you weren't interested in the school but it looks like they're wrong."
Kunikuzushi froze at his words. His eyes set on the arrangement mainly made of forget-me-nots with a bitter smile.
"No, they're right. I don't have the skills to do this. What I do doesn't deserve people's attention."
Kazuha glanced at the leftover flowers and grabbed a white edelweiss that he stuck closely to one of the blueish flowers as if it was gently covering it.
"It's not a matter of whether it looks pretty or not, what's important are your feelings and the way you convey them. Even the smallest bud can bloom into the prettiest flower."
Kazuha said those words as he tugged another edelweiss behind Kunikuzushi's ear. The latter blushed at the gesture but stayed still in his spot, sitting right next to the other and not minding the closeness between their thighs.
"Kazuha, you said... Will you come back again? I'll give you permission if you want..."
The fair-haired man looked surprised for a second but sketched a fond smile just after.
"Whenever you want."
