Once we step foot into Toys R Us, I'm being pulled every which way by Mariana. Looking at the dolls, the doll houses, the Lego sets and other fun toys for kids her age.

Dominique is following behind us as Mason takes Jackie to some toys for boys on the other side. A way to stop him from getting to excited because of how excited Mariana is.

Every year, we get her a few toys that she picks out, then we get my sister to baby sit for a day while we get some surprise presents for her, so that she doesn't know exactly what she's getting.

"Mummy look at this!" Mariana calls out in awe.

In her hand, is a medium size doll with a beautiful purple dress. Her hair in plats coming down both of her shoulders.

"You want this doll?" I ask her as I kneel down to her height. She nods her head and holds it close to her chest. I smile and look at the price, it's not as expensive as I thought. It's $35.

"Dominique, the doll costs $35, and I'll get her the pack that has change of clothes for the doll which is another $15." He nods and subtracts the total amount from the budget that has been set for Mariana's birthday.

"There's $1950 left in the budget. But remember, this has to cover the catering for her birthday party as well as a dress and the puppy." I nod my head and thank him.

We work our way to where Mason and Jackie is. When we get there, Mason has Jackie in his arms, Jackie is completely sound asleep.

"We should have Brough the pram with us." I say softly as I stroke my little princes head softly.

"It's alright. I don't mind carrying him around." I smile and kiss Masons cheek softly.

Once we pay for the toys, we head off toward the food court. Much to Dominique's disliking. He thinks that if we keep splurging money on eating out, we will go broke. I just roll my eyes at him.

It's not often we go shopping as a family, so when we do, I like to treat my children. After lunch, we made our way to the car park so we could get this puppy from RSPCA.

"What kind of puppy do you want?" Dominique asks Mariana as we drive toward the RSPCA. Jackie is fast asleep in his booster seat in the far back, making Dominique sit next to Mariana.

"I want a cute puppy! With brown fur and chubby cheeks." I smile and give a little cackle at her description of her dream puppy.

"Okay. Cute and chubby." Dominique repeats, a smile on his lips as he speaks with my daughter.

I know he's an arse when he wants to be, but I can't deny that he is good with my children.

"Babe, I'll stay in the car with Jackie." Mason offers once we arrive.

I nod my head and give him a kiss on the cheek while getting out of the car, before I can get to Mariana's door, Dominique is getting out, with Mariana in his arms. She has the widest grin on her lips.

"We won't be long." I promise Mason. He smiles and nods.

Mariana walks between Dominique and me, into the RSPCA.

"Hi, how can I help you?" A lady at the from desk asks.

"Hi, can we see the 6 weeks to twelve month range of your dogs?" I ask. She nods and leads us down a corridor toward a door, she opens the door to reveal several large cages with a dog or two in each cage.

We walk passed every one of them, my heart breaks for them all, I want to get all of them.

As we make our way, there are dogs yelping and barking and wagging tails at Mariana. But she only stops for one. A small, chocolate brown dog, huddled up against another little pup the same age and colour. They're both so quiet against the chaos.

I kneel down next Mariana, only to see tears in her small eyes. I turn her to look at me.

"Honey what's wrong?" I ask her.

"I want one of those...but I don't want to separate them mummy. I keep thinking how much I would cry if someone took me away from Jackie." I smile softly at her and press my lips to her forehead, bringing her into a hug.

"We don't have to separate them honey. We'll get both." I say softly.

"Ugh...think about the expense." Dominique says.

"So we'll get cheaper stuff for her party." I say waving him off. He sighs.

I stand up next to him and ask the lady if she could open the cage door for Mariana to go in.

She lets Mariana go in, and Mariana sits next to the two pups and strokes their heads softly.

"I have to go help another customer. Just, lock the cage once you're done and give the key back to me." The lady says. I smile and thank her.

She takes one last look at Mariana and the pups before turning to us again with a smile.

"You two have a lovely daughter." I blush.

Before I can correct her, Dominique wraps an arm around me waist and smiles.

"Thank you." He says politely and watches as she leaves.

Once she's out of sight, I elbow him in the stomach. Earning a chuckle from him.

"Why'd you do that?" I ask in a hiss.

"To save the poor woman the embarrassment." I roll my eyes and turn my attention back to my daughter.

"Besides, she's not wrong. Mariana is a wonderful little girl." I smile softly at his comment, but don't reply further than that.
